Making the headlines this weekend are Beechfield United Under 16's Thunder who celebrated their first win of the season in the East Manchester Junior League.
*On Sunday Morning the Under 16's THUNDER were at home against Oldham Community Panthers and Team Manager Ben Robinson had a full squad available for this Division 3 fixture. On their Astroturf Pitch Beechy took an early lead via Zach Bentham who produced a great finish from the edge of the area. Substitute Rafael Djacy was introduced into the action and he made it 2-0 after he went on a powerful run before hammering the ball into the net. Another strong determined run and finish by Djacy extended Thunder's lead then Beechy went 4-0 up when Mihail Savchev delivered a superb free kick and Rudolf volleyed the ball over the keeper into the far corner of the net. Despite being four goals behind Oldham Community were always a threat going forward and one effort on target forced a great save from Beechy keeper Oliver Dalton-Bunker. (HT 4-0)
The visitors reduced the arrears early in the second half but Thunder continued to dictate the play and following a great move Rafael Djacy completed his hat trick when he made it 5-1. Another superb move led to Beechy adding goal number six thanks to a confident finish from close range by Pedro. Just as Thunder thought they were clear winners Oldham Community gave them a quick reminder when the visitors got their second goal and almost from the restart as Thunder's looked tired Oldham scored again with fifteen minutes left. Suddenly looking rather unsettled Beechy conceded a fourth goal but the pressure was eased after Man of the Match Rudolf charged down the left wing and fired the ball across to Zach Bentham who made no mistake from ten yards to secure Thunders victory.
*Beginning their Challenge Tournament games in the group of death the Under 9's THUNDER had arguably their toughest fixture against an excellent Salford Storm Tornadoes team. The game was evenly fought throughout and after making a good start Thunder went a goal down. But Beechy equalised shortly after through an excellent strike from Harrison Spencer that kept the teams level at half time. The second half swung like a pendulum and during the early period Thunder had to deal with intense Salford Storm pressure and while Beechy defence excelled it was goalkeeper Oscar Spencer who shone the most. Whenever Salford Storm breached the backline Oscar responded with some outstanding saves, the pick of them was when he clawed the ball from underneath the crossbar.
But then the tie changed and suddenly it was Beechy who had the momentum and after a couple of missed chances Chase Sixsmith went round the keeper to give Thunder the lead. Harrison Spencer scored from what seemed an impossible angle then Chase Sixsmith netted Beechy's fourth goal after the ball hit the inside of the post before finding the net. The game was being comfortably played out by Thunder but Salford Storm got a second goal with minutes to go and in a frantic finish the visitors to Beech Farm scored again. Oscar Spencer was Man of the Match ahead of Jude Bond who produced an excellent display as an holding midfielder. Thunder's Manager Chris Kelly said he cannot remember as many people watching a grassroots game that was brilliant, so loud and partisan. It was a credit to both sets of parents of both teams who were excellent and respectful to each other.
*In action on Saturday morning in the Salford and Districts Junior League the Under 16's HURRICANES met Deans Youth Orange for their latest Division 1 game. Four squad players were unavailable but Beechy who still had a enough quality on the pitch managed to secure a 2-0 win thanks to a great performance from Hurricanes goalkeeper Max Gill-Williams. Goalscorers for Beechy were Man of the Match Rafael Djacy and Joshua Whitehead.
*Producing another great all-round performance especially in attacking areas were Beechy Under 12's TORNADOES. In the 9v9 Challenge Cup the Tornadoes had home advantage against neighbours Moorside Rangers Reds and maintaining their impressive unbeaten run booked their place in the 2nd Round of the competition with a fully deserved victory. Throughout the tie Beechy played some very good free flowing football plus they also defended superbly. Man of the Match Lucio Riva fired home five goals while also on target were Archie Charles, Max Blood, Luke Bennett and Lynott Cassidy. Assists for the goals came via Zack MacKinnon, Harvey Pugh, Daniel Badewa, Lynott and Luke.
*In the Manchester Youth Super League the Under 11's LIGHTNING (9v9) earned themselves a revenge victory over Manchester Polonia. In Division One Beechy lost the previous game between the teams on the opening day of the season. Lightning made a great start in this game when Eshan Shanahan gave Beechy the lead and shortly after an effort from Henry Dunne was parried by the Polonia keeper and from the rebound Eshan Shanahan put Lightning two goals up. The solid back line including Kayson Gregg and Charlie Drury were breached for the first time when Polonia reduced the arrears. Beechy won a free kick on the edge of the area just before half time and Michael Schofield combined with Kayson Gregg who fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net to restore Lightning's two goal advantage. In the second half Beechy added more stability by playing with an extra defender but almost instantly from a free kick Polonia scored their second goal. With the game in the balance Finley Thompson-Hale, Junior Davies and Ollie Simpson ran their hearts out in midfield winning lots of tackles as Lightning came under pressure. Finally a break attack from the left allowed Beechy to open up the Polonia defence and following a poor clearance the ball flew across to George Richardson who firmly placed it into the net to guarantee Lightning the win.
*Also in the Manchester Youth Super League the Under 10's THUNDER met Sapere Aude FC in a Christmas Cup group stage game. After being promoted to Division 1 Thunder were missing some key players and had just one substitute available. The game was literally end to end with the teams sharing four goals on the twenty minute mark with both Beechy's goals scored via counter-attacks. Into the second half the pace continued to be high and all Thunders players worked extremely hard while both Mackeon Browne and Sunay Shanahan held the defence together when Sapere Aude brought on fresh legs. From a chip/lob from just past the halfway line Sapere took the lead but Thunder responded through Sonny Phillips who equalised with an absolutely thunderous left footed finish to earn Beechy a share of the spoils.
*Playing their first game in the Challenge Tournament were Beechy Under 10's STORM who's opponents for this Group a fixture were AFC Monton Mad Dogs. Playing a strange scenario of 5v5 on a big 7-a-side pitch this wasn't one of Storm's best performances and following a close first half the teams shared four goals at the break. With no substitutes available Monton tired slightly and taking advantage with the extra players Beechy eventually secured the victory. Special mentions to Kade Doyle who bagged a hat trick and Isaac Hargreaves who was named Man of the Match for his second half performance in which he worked so hard in midfield as he battled for the team. Also on target with goals for Thunder were Bobby Lowe and Isaac.
*Beechy Under 7's THUNDER produced their finest performance of the season so far in a dominant display. Thunder who were away at Flixton Junior Rhinos made a positive start but didn't quite score the goals they deserved. But eventually the goals started to flow when the attacking force of Aldo Gannon, Zac Vaughan and Ronnie Green began to click and at times their movement of the ball was reminiscent of Barcelona in their pomp. Thunder's goalkeeper Raurie Brassington made some solid saves while Gideon James and George Lawson were rock solid in defence, their strength and determination was a pleasure to see. Ronnie netted four goals, Aldo was again on the scoresheet and Gideon and Zac were also on target the latter scoring a late goal to cap a great performance. After a tough start to the season in the last three games the Beechy Boys have been superb. Parents Man of the Match was Raurie while the Team Coaches voted for Gideon. Most improved player was Aldo.
