Beechy U11's STORM continued their run of good form with victory over local rivals Swinton Warriors at Beech Farm.
Beechy started the game brightly again and put their opponents under the cosh from the off but despite the relentless pressure fifteen mins went by without a goal, that was until a nice through ball was played by Max Schofield through to Austin Pierce who’s pace was electric to clear the defender and slot home onto the bottom corner. The second wasn’t far behind some more good work from Max in midfield braking up play and a nice ball out wide to Barkley Pope, he beat two men before being clattered in the box, a stone wall penalty that he duly slotted under the keeper, low and hard to double the lead. Swinton struggled to get out of their own half however a dangerous break saw Harry Wharton make a great challenge to win the ball and then play a raking pass out wide to Kobe Glass who found Ismail Adetona on the edge of the box, he beat his man and tucked the ball into the bottom corner for the third goal going into the interval.
Into the second half and kicking slightly downhill the onslaught continued and it wasn’t long before Ismail got on the scoresheet again, he picked up the ball from a poor goal kick, beat two defenders and side footed home for goal number four. The Beechy boys were playing some lovely football at this stage and Max got in on the scoring with a rasping strike into the bottom corner. That was quickly followed by a scramble in the box after a well taken corner from Denholm Brooks, the ball eventually breaking to Joel Momoh who tucked it away with his wand of a left foot. The boys took their foot off the gas a little and Swinton had a few breakaway chances however Harry and Josh Lowry with the support of keeper Jay Royale were solid at the back to mop up and played some lovely passing build play from the back. We made a couple of changes and this saw Kobe Glass tuck our on the left, his twinkle toes beating his man time and time again and eventually he found the decisive pass to Ismail who slotted the ball home. The scoring wasn’t finished there as Max added the cherry on the cake with another superb strike from the edge of the box to finish off the scoring. Another fantastic team performance with the boys playing some great football and scoring some quality goals.
Man of the Match was Ismail Adetona, a great all round performance capped off with a hat trick.
Finally I just want to make a special mention to two of our boys who were captured in a moment of true sportsmanship. Joel Momoh and Ismail Adetona are in the photo following, they helped carry off an injured opposition player at the end of the game showing great empathy and the qualities that epitomises what it means to be part of our team and this club. Two top boys who have really made an impact on our team this season and this shows what they are all about. The Swinton coach put a lovely message out to the league and we couldn’t be more proud of these and all of our boys for that matter as any of our 12 players would’ve done this but all credit goes to these two.
