Beechfield Thunder versus Irlam Juniors

Third game in the cup challenge group for the Thunder boys against a new opponent in Irlam juniors. Back in today was Bobby in goal, Finley and Elliot in defence with Angelo in midfield and José leading upfront. Thunder started the game well taking the pressure straight to Irlam who were made to defend their lines from some charging runs into the box by José. Thunder continued with the early pressure with Elliot and Finley finding space on the flanks but Irlam were keeping tight at the back. Irlam came into the game after soaking up thunder's pressure and against the run play fired in first with a looping shot from long range. Not deterred by the goal it wasn't long before thunder levelled after some good play in midfield from Angelo lead to José finding space and finishing his chance very well. Spurred on by the goal Thunder went looking for the second and it wasn't long before José found himself in space on the edge of the box where he slotted in a shot that just tricked over Irlam's goal line. Irlam came looking to halt the momentum of Thunder after the restart and began to start pressuring the Thunder defence and Thunder's line was broken after a failure to clear the lines lead to a strike for a Irlam leveller. The back end of the half would unfortunately go against Thunder with two of Irlam's goals going in before the half time break.

Into the second half and Thunder would start brightly again with the introduction of Shammah, Ralph and Che who were full of energy and took the game to Irlam. Shammah playing some great football from the back and charging through the midfield and into the Irlam box unleashing a strike that just missed the Irlam goal by millimetres. Che and Ralph were linking up well down the wing but Irlam's defence was proving difficult to break down and create clear cut chances for them both. Gio came into the game and began to disrupt the Irlam defence and make some good attacking runs, Bobby was called into action on a couple of occasions keeping Thunder on the hunt for a third goal. Shammah again playing some great passes from the back towards Che and Ralph but the Irlam defence would prove to be solid in holding on to their lead with the game finishing in their favour.

A competitive game for the lads who were unlucky in the end against a well organised Irlam team.

Man of the Match - Shammah, showing great tenacity and passing play from the back and he was unlucky with his shot that nearly hit the back of the Irlam goal.
