After Salford Community Leisure took the decision to cancel all fixtures on grass and 3G pitches, due to the recent adverse weather conditions, the Hurricanes’ parents decided to challenge the team to a ‘Lads v Dads’ fixture on the indoor pitches at the SoccerDome.
It was an early-morning kick-off, so everyone managed to avoid the huge queues full of Christmas shoppers who were heading to the nearby Trafford Centre, and both sides were filled with festive cheer as the game was played in a great spirit.
There were silky skills and great goals on display from both teams and it seemed fair that it was all-square at half time (although the Dads seemed to need the break more than the lads did?!)
A shortened second half saw both sides add a couple of extra goals each and the tie headed to penalties! However the penalties were all taken at a Father Christmas piñata, which was duly destroyed by all of the lads, so everyone left looking very happy with their handfuls of sweets!
Great fun was had by all, and the sweets should be enough to keep the lads sugar-fuelled until Christmas ….. although some of the Dads may be a little bit stiff in the morning?!
After the game, manager Ben Robinson said, "Really enjoyed today. Great idea Glenn, thanks to Sue for the treats. Merry Christmas to everyone!".
