Typhoon 5 - 4 Culcheth Cobras
Well 10 minutes into this game you couldn’t see the drama to come. Typhoon were two up through Igor and Ronan and Igor’s goal was the hardest of the three chances he’d already had. We looked a much better outfit and were playing the better football. We conceded a soft goal and then it all started to unravel. Will hadn’t been able to get into the match, got in a tussle with his defender, the red mist came down, he lashed out and was sent off. Cat amongst the pigeons time.
From here on in the boys knew they really had to dig in and they were at it pretty much straight away but couldn’t prevent Culcheth equalising.
We talked at half time but the kids’ heads weren’t down and they were up for a fight. No more than Ryan O who put us back ahead, smacking home from a corner. Culcheth really wanted this and started getting a little tasty. The bench was full of walking wounded; Jamie pulled his groin, Milonga took a kick to the leg that took him out, Igor also took a whack. Worse was to come, Sonny fell awkwardly after a trip and broke his arm. Culcheth kept scoring but our boys wanted it too. Then up stepped Reece with two belters, the second a worldie , twisting and smacking it in on the volley. We even should have had a sixth, Daniel nipped the ball off their keeper who cleaned him out with an open goal behind him, and was very lucky not to get himself sent off as well. Daniel joined the group limping on the sidelines.
The final whistle went, the Culcheth players fell to their knees and our boys celebrated wildly. What a performance against the odds for our first league win of the season. All those out on the pitch really put the effort and commitment in to gain a fabulous victory. Pete and I would have been happy with a point but the boys just kept on scoring. We awarded the whole team the MoM award.
Hopefully Will will learn from his mistake. He was remorseful watching the game and so glad it ultimately didn’t cost the team.
It was so unfortunate for Sonny and we will really miss him. Get well soon Sonny
