- Kicks you when you’re down
Moorside Black 5-3 Typhoon
We started off slowly again on a very interesting pitch. It was very small, had a severe slope and was boggy at the bottom. We conceded a calamitous first goal, a nothing ball went through three players before being finished nicely. We went two down but the introduction of a set of substitutes changed things. We’d talked to them about bringing more energy to the game and Reece did in spades. He was everywhere and deserved his goal, finishing calmly from a good Cole throw in.
We started reasonably in the second half but conceded another. The boys didn’t let themselves be dead and buried and got right back at Moorside. The home side were rattled and started giving away free kicks that even a very poor ref couldn’t ignore. One was clearly inside the box but the ref gave it outside. Reece bagged his second, another great finish and Typhoon were all over them searching for the equaliser. With only minutes to go Sonny latched on to one and buried it into the corner, the cue for wild celebrations.
Now, we should have gone for the win at this point but the boys panicked and froze a little. Moorside attacked us but Freddie saw the danger and was fouled. Inexplicably the ref gave the free kick to them and they scored with a belter, giving Peter no chance. With only seconds left Typhoon heads went down and they somehow managed to score from a tight angle to give them a hugely flattering 5-3 win.
I thought we’d rescued at least a point and it was a bit of a kick in the teeth at the end, which the kids didn’t deserve. They all came off the pitch disappointed but at least they can be proud of their efforts. The energy levels were much higher than in recent games and they’ve given us something to work with as we go into the Supplementary Cup.
The three best performances were from Sonny and Reece, who made the biggest impact coming on from the bench, but Cole got MoM, quietly producing a great display at the back. He did a great amount of work covering the middle and can be proud of his efforts.
