Saturday 17th September, Cringle Playing Fields, League, KO 9.30am.

Kicking off their league campaign, saw the Tornadoes heading over to south Manchester to play Kingsway Athletic North. On a crisp and bright Autumn morning the boys played some excellent football.

Initially we struggled to get a foothold in the game as Kingsway played some lovely stuff and in the early stages I did feel we were hanging on a bit. However, 15-20 minutes in, the boys settled down and started to have more possession and I think the 0-0 scoreline, at half time, was a fair reflection of the contest.

The second half saw us have even more of the ball and now, starting to use Dylan on the left and Josh on the right, we were making some chances. Unfortunately for us we couldn't make our opportunities count and in a rare lapse of concentration, at the back, we got punished with a breakaway goal.

I always felt that the first goal would be decisive, however, I also thought that we were good enough to get an equaliser. Sadly, though in pressing for that leveller we left ourselves exposed at the back and fell victim to a sucker punch, carbon copy goal.

Conceding the second totally wiped us out but you've got to give the boys great credit. They carried on playing their football and trying to score. There was no bickering amongst ourselves, it was head down, sleeves rolled up and getting on with the job.

So, despite the result, which was disappointing, the performance and attitude were very good and that determination was there, for all of the 70 minutes! And despite losing 2-0, I went home in a good frame of mind as our boys played brilliantly and kept going trying to get a goal.

Final score:
Kingsway Athletic North 2 - 0 Beechfield United Tornadoes
