- Cup Glory 🍾
Flixton Cougars 0-6 Typhoon
After the excellent performance and victory against Barr Hill we knew a win at Flixton would take us to the Supplementary Cup final. It was a beautiful Tuesday night and the boys’ attitude was spot on and they were raring to go.
We dominated from the start and played some really good stuff. Flixton put up some good resistance but it was broken by Jamie. Before they could rally Charlie chipped in with a couple and when Ronan rounded the keeper to make it 4-0 at the break we knew we had it in the bag. Throughout the half we kept the pressure on, the defence rarely letting them get out of their own half. The boys’ heads were up and we were passing the ball very nicely. It also helped that Flixton are also possibly the only team smaller than us!
Things continued in a similar vein in the second half, though we did go off the boil a little. Some of the boys started to go for individual glory when a pass would have led to a tap in but it’s hard to hold it against them. Sonny added a fifth and Harry scored his first of the season, leaping like a salmon to meet a corner. Well worth the wait 😀!
Flixton did get at us more but Peter was up to the challenge to secure his clean sheet.
All in all it was another very good performance, six goals and it could easily have been more. It was close for man of the match between Jamie, who was a thorn in their defence all game long and Sam who put in another excellent midfield performance. Sam just about pipped it, when he’s in this mood he’s a very good player.
We won four and lost just the one to top this group, the boys can be very proud of their achievement in reaching the final. They do seem to love playing in the cups.
