Typhoon 0-0 De La Salle Devils
This lot were the same Winton team that beat us 5-0 at the back end of last season but rebranded in red.
I was very pleased with the performance of the team and it was good to blow the cobwebs away and to start playing again.
The grass was ridiculously long, thanks Salford council, which made life hard to run with the ball and short passes tricky.
As expected they were a good team and had the majority of the play but Typhoon battled really well against them and didn’t just park the bus. With our pace up front we carved out a couple of very good chances and we should have done better with a one on one with the keeper. This was a reminder to the boys to get closer before taking their shots.
At the back we were resilient, battled for most things and kept a pretty disciplined line. Ultimately the clean sheet was the responsibility of Peter who claimed the Man of the Match award. While only making one really good save that I can remember, he was busy but made sure with all his saves, keeping the Devils at bay. We rode our luck a little but it was hard work that kept us in the game.
The fitness levels have unsurprisingly dropped over the summer but I’m sure Pete will have some torture in mind over the coming weeks to rectify that.
