- TORNADOES V SWINTON PANTHERS
Saturday 6th November, Beech Farm, KO 10am, League.
Getting back to league action, the Tornadoes faced up to another Swinton team, in the guise of the Panthers.
Although boasting a few more players, than the now departed Swinton Lions, the Panthers did not provide the same stern test as their former stable mates.
From early on, Beechy dominated the match and effectively over ran and outplayed our opponents. Although there was a brief spell when they equalised, shortly after Stewart's opener, Martin soon restored our lead before the boys took off over the horizon.
In a superb first half performance, the lads were very much in control and our 2-4-2 formation was working exceptionally well. And although, overall, we won the game comfortably, the second half did give me some cause for concern. The loss of our tactical/formation shape, in particular, left huge gaps in the middle of the park when advancing forward, due to a lot of players getting a bit giddy and wanting to get on the score sheet. Against more superior opposition this kind of indiscipline could cost us. Therefore, we should be thankful that we had Eddie and/or Oscar on the pitch to stay with the back 2 and help them out when needed. Despite that though, if we'd kept our midfield discipline then the defending at times in the second half need not have been so panicky.
Overall though, I can't fault the lads, especially on the first 15-20 minutes, which was pure excellence. You can only beat what's put in front of you and the boys did a great job, despite missing a few sitters!
In terms of the MOTM award, there was honourable mentions for Stewart and Martin, who bagged 4 goals each, for George and Dylan who pulled off some great recovery tackles and for Feranmi who very nearly scored his first ever goal, however, for sheer industry, tactical discipline and making good in play choices, the award had to go to Oscar Mather.
Tornadoes 8 - 2 Swinton Panthers
(Martin 4, Stewart 4)
