- A Proper Cup Tie
Swinton Tigers 4-3 Typhoon
Well the first of the round robin cup games was an excellent and very close affair. We've had two absolute crackers already this season! Typhoon started slowly and found themselves a goal down and indebted, not for the first time, to Peter for keeping it down to one. Gradually we fought our way into the game and a peach of a pass from Ronan split the Tigers' defence and Cole slotted in the equaliser. The game was very even now but Typhoon went ahead, first Sam with a clinical finish and then Charlie nipping round the keeper. Two down the Tigers started to lose their composure. There was a petulant kick at Charlie and their players started to try and force it instead of playing their football. I thought that if we could weather the pressure or get another we'd be laughing but, unfortunately we had a few minutes' loss of concentration allowing them to first equalise and then get a penalty to put them back ahead. We carried on fighting and almost managed an equaliser, the ball falling near Milo only yards out from a corner but he didn't have the time to get a touch on it. It wouldn't have been any less than we deserved for a really gritty and determined display. As well as man of the match Peter, Freddie took a beating manfully holding the defence together, whilst everywhere around the pitch the boys could hold their heads high. The boys need to demand this level of performance from themselves every week and we'll be fine.
