Well the sun certainly shone on the boys this week. Surprisingly beautiful Spring weather that caught most of the boys off guard and had them all shedding their skins at half time.
The boys' morale had taken a beating recently but this must have helped matters. What a team performance!
Cole had a blinder! Asked to play centre forward, his pace gave the DLS defence all sorts of problems. The first goal came from an OG with the defender under loads of pressure trying to cope with Cole's cross/shot. Once that went in you could see the boys starting to relax and play. There were some great passing movements as we got the ball wide, away from the congested areas and then pressed home the attacks. Cole added a brace before half time and finished off his hat trick in the second half. By now, DLS's heads were going down and the boys were happy and flying. Joseph scored his first of the season, a lovely header dinked over the advancing keeper from a great free kick from Milonga. Not bad for the joint smallest player on the pitch! His second was a cracking volley from a corner - yes, we even scored from one of those!
All the boys played well. Cole can feel aggrieved he didn't walk away with the man of the match award, however he can console himself with the fiver winging its way to him from his mum for the hat trick. However, I gave Harley the award as he showed another string to his bow. Playing in left midfield he got stuck in and won the ball but then got his head up and made some really good passes. It was nice to see the boys try and get their heads up and there were some great passes, one each from Cole and Daniel especially that stuck in the mind.
Let's hope that they kick on from this performance for the rest of the season.
