Storm went into their 2nd home game of the season full of confidence. Having narrowly missed out on a result against Winton last week, the boys were determined to start the game strong.
From the first whistle Storm put Manchester under pressure. Great passing saw 2 early opportunities but they were expertly saved by the Manchester goalkeeper. As the game settled Storm continued to create chances, brilliant wing play on both sides of the pitch caused problems for the Manchester defence. As Storm pressed for the opening goal some strong defending from Manchester allowed them to hit Storm on the counter attack. Their striker powering down the middle of the pitch and smashing a shot towards goal. Not having much to do up to this point Storm goalkeeper dived to his right and pushed the ball over the bar. Corner to Manchester. Some relaxed defending followed and a kind bounce allowed the ball to drop to a Manchester player who slotted home. Frustrated by falling behind Storm pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded when a powerful shot took a deflection off a Manchester player and nestled in the bottom corner. Both sides continued to push for a second goal but couldn’t find an opening. Teams level at Half Time.
The second half started same as the first with Storm creating multiple chances and should have been ahead but once again were thwarted by the Manchester goalkeeper. The game continued back and forth with both teams creating chances and both goalkeepers up to the task of keeping the oppositions at bay. As Storm entered the final 15 mins they managed to find another gear. The passing became sharper and a reward soon followed. Some fantastic wing play again saw a shot bounce off the Manchester goalkeeper and was pounced upon by the Storm forwards to edge Beechy ahead. The next 5 mins saw multiple chances and three more goals. Expertly taken following brilliant build up play. As the team sensed there might be more available they pressed forward at one point all six Storm outfield players were camped in the opposition half. A final goal from our winger meant the game was beyond reach with the time left to play. Not deflated by the scoreline Manchester managed to grab a consolation goal just before the final whistle.
