After 2 consecutive wins the Tornadoes were in a confident mood ahead of the match v a decent Deans side having a good season, who would be promoted to a higher division after this game.
We started the game really well and played all of the opening exchanges in Deans half. Chances were few and far between however. Grayson Evans had a couple of chances with bursting runs through, and Freya Quinn almost scored with her first touch with a looping effort saved by the Deans keeper. Beechy keeper Ty Dobson didn't touch the ball for the first 15 minutes such was Beechy's dominance, but the goal we deserved eluded us. As the half wore on Deans grew into the game and had a couple of half chances themselves the best of which was on the stroke of half time, a high effort superbly saved by Ty Dobson, with Alex McGrory on hand to make the clearance before the Deans forward could follow up. It was goalless at half time, not much in the game but Beechy more deserving of the lead.
The 2nd half continued in the same manner. A tight, well contested affair between 2 well matched teams, with few clear cut chances for either side. Half way through the 2nd period the Deans played the ball forward and it clearly struck the arm of the Deans forward in a high, unnatural position, before breaking to their striker who slotted home to give the visitors the lead. The Tornadoes appealed for the free kick and the players, coaching staff and supporters were bewildered when the goal was allowed to stand by the ref. So harsh on Beechy.
Despite the setback we didn't give up and stepped up a gear. We gave everything we had to try and force the equaliser. Mason Stockton had a chance, and there were some late corners and goalmouth scrambles, but what would have been a deserved equaliser never came.
A draw or even a win would have been a fair result today, there was nothing between the sides, we just lacked a cutting edge in front of goal today. The team should be proud of their battling performance once again against what is now a higher division side. We seem to have become much more resilient at the back in recent weeks. We have only conceded 3 goals in our last 3 games which is a great platform to build on.
With both defences on top today Player of The Match had to be a defender. Freya Quinn had a magnificent game on her return to the side, Ty Dobson was great in goal yet again. But POTM went to Reuben McCormick, rock like at centre half and for a brief spell in midfield. Nothing got past him all day. Well done Reuben and well done team, a good performance that the result does not do justice.
