- U8 TORNADOES V U8 STORM
Sunday 5th November, Beech farm, KO 11am, Friendly.
Due to the persistent rain, which resulted in our normal pitch being waterlogged, we once again decamped to the affectionately know 'bottom pitch'.
Up against a strong and resilient Division One outfit, the Tornadoes were absolutely magnificent in the first half. We created lots of chances, had a load of possession and defended brilliantly.
Whilst the pitch didn't exactly lend itself to the beautiful passing game and the pace was frenetic, we really didn't look out of our depth. All thanks to Oliver then who was inspired and Stewart who was gritty and disciplined in the first half.
Therefore, it was really unfortunate to go in at half time a goal down, when I thought we deserved at least a draw.
The second half saw several positional changes for us and an increase in intensity from Storm.
The extra pressure from Storm probably forced us to make some errors, for which we were punished.
However, in response we played some good football ourselves and we created more chances which Alfie and Daire took advantage of, to score a goal apiece.
Overall then, I don't feel the scoreline fairly reflected the game and it was a decent showing from our boys.
Everybody put on a good show, especially Oliver who attracted tons of praise from the Storm manager.
But, the player who stood out for me, for the MOTM award, was Dylan. He didn't shy away from the physical intensity of the game and he's starting to make better decisions about when to pass and when to travel with the ball.
We've some big tests ahead of us over the next 4 weeks, with these cup matches, so get behind the boys and keep on encouraging them!
