POSTED: March 20 2017 10:05:39. By Oscar Courtney - MOORSIDE U7 PURPLE V U7 TORNADOES

Saturday 18th March, Moorside Farm, KO 9am, League.

With the weather playing havoc with most of the division's fixtures, we were therefore fortunate to be up against Moorside Purple on their 3G pitch. Although 3G doesn't suit our lads, I'd say on the whole they gave a good account of themselves and more than matched Moorside in very department.

Getting off to an excellent start, the Tornadoes had Moorside pegged back in their own half and we created numerous chances. Alfie, in particular, came closest when his shot from an acute angle cannoned off the crossbar.

Continuing to press, and with George masterfully holding the back line, the Tornadoes finally scored when Stewart found the net with a daisy cutter from outside the area.

Not long after Moorside restored parity, before Alfie scored a second, for the Tornadoes, to see the boys going in to half time with a well deserved lead.

To be fair to Moorside they upped their game in the second half and produced a more even contest. However, I was very pleased with the defensive resilience shown by the lads (special mention to Stewart for a goal line clearance!) and, but for another refereeing oversight, I'm confident the boys could have held their lead and even added to it. Especially if the referee had played regulation time!

Overall, on a testing surface, this was decent display from the Tornadoes, which I hope will set us up well for our next three challenges, which are all Supplementary Cup matches.
MOTM went to George Wadeson.
Oscar.
