- U7's Tornadoes V U7's Prestwich FC Juniors
Saturday 7th January 2017, Beech Farm, 10am KO, Friendly.
After the Christmas and New Year break it was good to get playing again and lining up against a newly formed team was a great way to get back to playing organised football. With all 8 players reporting for duty it was decided that regular goal keeper, Jack McMinn, could have an entire game playing outfield.
The Tornadoes certainly dominated the opening period of the game as they found themselves encamped in the Prestwich half. Despite this dominance, Prestwich boasted an excellent goal keeper who was able to keep the scores even. However, the Tornadoes were undeterred and their good play finally saw Alfie find the net with a well placed shot. Unfortunately, the Tornadoes fell victim to 2 breakaway goals and were under a bit of pressure until Finn evened the score again with an equaliser, just before half time. With Dylan unable to continue, due to illness, the Tornadoes carried on where they left off bringing the play to Prestwich, creating numerous chances and making vast territorial gains. The Tornadoes were now staring to look very comfortable as Alfie completed a hat trick and Flinn netted his second, for a brace. A brief flurry from Prestwich saw them score again to reduce the arrears and make the last few minutes a bit nervy, until some good persistence from Stewart saw him score, to restore the 3 goal advantage. Overall, it was a very satisfactory and solid performance from all the lads; Dylan did his best despite feeling very ill. Daire and Logan performed well and both took it in turns to play in nets. George was as disciplined and tenacious as ever, very little got past him! Jack had an excellent run out and very nearly scored, several times. Flinn converted two of his chances and created loads more. Alfie was ruthless and tactically aware and Stewart was dogged and hard working. Good work everyone but MOTM was a joint award to Logan and Daire who thought about the needs of the team first and both volunteered to go in nets for a half each. Finally, a big thank you to Clint for reffing the game. Much obliged! Oscar.
