POSTED: October 14 2018 14:05:28. By Oscar Courtney - BRIDGE EAGLES V TORNADOES

Saturday 13th October, Top o’th Lane, KO 9.15am, League.

Undeterred by the fact that some of our opponents looked closer to 40 than 14, the Tornadoes raced in to an early lead with Tommy smashing in a glorious effort from about 25 yards out!

Tommy’s sublime effort was soon followed by Max, who nicked the ball in at the keeper’s near post, after another trademark burst down the left flank.

However, Max’s involvement in the game was soon to be drastically curtailed when, following an almost identical foray down the left hand side, he was to be very cynically taken out!

Obviously I fed back my opinion to the Referee. However he deigned a free kick to be worthy punishment for the infraction.

How Max is not lieing in an orthopaedic unit I don’t know. That challenge was disgraceful and the very least it deserved was a yellow card.

Unfortunately, despite going very close, Andrew was unable to convert any of our subsequent free kicks and by the time half time came we were in arrears.

The second half was probably more or less the same, with both teams having a go and defending reasonably well.

On balance, Bridge probably just about deserved the win, but I don’t think they were technically or tactically any better than us. However, what they did have was power, and physical presence, and that’s probably what swung the game for them.

Overall, I thought we did fine and there were some encouraging link ups, up and down the right wing, with JJ, James, Andrew and Callum Looby all supporting each other well. Support play, communication and movement off the ball will be vital this season.

MOTM to Tommy Roberts for an amazing goal and an eye catching celebration to match.

Final Score:
Bridge Eagles 5 - 3 Tornadoes
