POSTED: January 31 2018 10:43:50. By Oscar Courtney - BARR HILL U13 ACES V U13 TORNADOES

Saturday 27th January 2018, Duchy Playing Fields, KO 10:30am, League.

I know we lost this game, but from what I saw of the entire first half it was a genuine contest! The last time we played Barr Hill, only two months ago, we were 0 - 10 down at half time and the game was a procession. This time Barr Hill knew they had a game on their hands and we made them work for their victory.

That's all I ask of our players - is that they compete and they compete meaningfully. And that is what they did! I was so impressed with the boys attitude, effort and total commitment to each other and the cause.

The second half, I'm told by Ricky, was even better from us and if you want to put a positive spin on it you could say we got a 2 - 2 draw in the second period! All thanks due then to our vastly improving goal keeper, Callum Looby, who once again saved a penalty.

Overall then, not bad going against a team who will undoubtedly win the title and probably go unbeaten all season.

What was also good news for us, was the fact that we breached the meanest defence in the divison twice, with Ronan and Max finding the net, plus we also created numerous chances.

In summary, there's nothing to be ashamed of and we can be delighted with a decent outcome. In terms of performances I was pleased with everyone but I have to say Joe Hope caught my eye with a tremendous hard working and gritty display!
However, on Ricky's suggestion and he did see the whole game, MOTM went to Patrick for a terrific performance of battling bravery and passion!

Final score:
Barr Hill Aces 5 - 2 Tornadoes.
