POSTED: February 26 2018 10:49:20. By Oscar Courtney - MOSTON U13 STRIPES V U13 TORNADOES

Saturday 24th February, Our Lady's RC High School, KO 9am, Friendly.

Although originally scheduled as a League encounter, this match had to be reassigned as a Friendly, due to the fact that Moston had to field several ineligible players to make up an 11.

Once we got going, on what has to be said was a very challenging surface, the game soon came to life.

Undoubtedly due to the cold conditions, which made for a very awkward surface, the Tornadoes took quite a while to get their passing game going.

For the first half, of the first half, Moston were slightly the better team and probably had the edge in defence and midfield. Although they didn't create much in terms of clear cut chances the one chance that they did have, they finished off very well.

For us, at the other end, it was a case of so near yet so far until Alan registered his first.

Unfortunately for us, Moston soon took the lead again after some poor defending by the lads. However, that was short lived when an ever alert Alan seized on a spilled ball from the Moston keeper, after he'd been tested by a shot from Joe Hope. That goal from Alan saw half time come with the scores even at two apiece.

Thankfully the second spell saw the Tornadoes get a good grip on the game, especially in midfield.

From this stage the chances started to flow and, but for a defensive mix up, which allowed Moston to score once more, the Tornadoes made hay.

The defensive solidity of Keelan, Taylor, Lucas, Jamie and Brandon, coupled with the great break up play of Ben and Tommy, gave the rest of the midfield the platform to push forward and make things happen.

It was great to see an opposition attack thwarted by Ben, Jamie or Tommy. From that Brandon would pick up the ball and power forward, from the back and pass it on to either Max or Andrew. They in turn would release Alan, Joe H, Ronan or Kai.

In very testing conditions, it was brilliant to see the boys playing with confidence, expressing themselves and above all enjoying themselves.

Moment of the game? This was undoubtedly when Andrew fed an exquisite lobbed pass to Alan, who controlled the ball with his chest before swivelling and dispatching a sweet left foot volley, just under the crossbar, from about 18 yards out. That was definitely the pick of Alan's Super Six!
MOTM: Went jointly to Alan and Andrew.

Great display everyone!

Final Score:
Moston Stripes 3 - 6 Tornadoes.
