Here we go again guys.. New season has begun and after coming so close last year we are aiming for the title and nothing less.. We managed to keep our team together from last season which is a first, and we also had 2 new faces to bolster up our defence, plus a familiar face also made a welcome return.

The first game put us up against our old foe Swinton, we were fired up for the game and expecting a victory.

As usual it was a tight start, not much to choose between the teams. It was hard to get our passing game going and Swinton were as physical as always. We finally got the breakthrough when Jake found some space down the right, cut inside and fired his shot across the keeper to give us the lead. We expected to kick on from here, but some poor passing and some lads trying to do to much let Swinton back in. We were left wide open down our right and Swinton scored to bring it level. Swinton had their backs up now and more sloppy play from us plus losing ball in dangerous positions gave them an easy opportunity to take the lead.. Very frustrating first half, we need to learn to release the ball sooner. Losing the ball means you're out of position and then we are in trouble. At least 3 of us were guilty of doing this in the first half!!

A good chat at half time, with the lads realising we weren't good enough. Plus some harsh words from Nathan, Scott and Shaun and we went out ready for the second half.
One player who can hold on to the ball too long is Dan, and we're forever telling him to release it sooner. But when this kid gets into the game he's just a class footballer. He drifted past one down the left then opened up his long legs to sprint down the line before putting an absolute peach of a cross over for David to blast in the roof of the net 2-2. But after that good play we let Swinton in again, losing the ball in a dangerous position to gift them the lead again. I bet they couldn't believe their luck. The game was on edge and as usual with Swinton a few naughty challenges went in with Patrick getting sliced down from the same player at least 3 times.. After having a pretty poor game, the well below average ref finally gave us something and awarded a free kick outside the box.. Jake and Cody both fancied this but it was Cody with that sweet left foot who smashed it toward goal, Kyle got a touch on it and steered it home to bring us level again. Now we were on top, and Dan was enjoying himself. And it was him that found the winner with a great finish 4-3 get in!!!

So first game and a first win. We made hard work of that and need to improve a lot if we want to reach our target. There are better teams than Swinton in this league, we all know we can play better so lets not have any regrets. But we dug in and got the result so well done guys.

Monday night we had a friendly with Winton vipers, plenty of goals and good football, plus a clean sheet. A great run with everyone being used in different postions

Big cup game next week, nothing less than 100% is expected
