De La Salle Reds 3 - 5 Typhoon
First round of the cup and do we finally get some luck and an easy draw? No chance! We get De La Salle Reds instead, fresh from putting 7 past us last week. We knew what to expect, we practiced shoulder barges and sticking up for yourself on Tuesday. What we needed was to keep it tight, not let them get ahead and any momentum going, so it was pretty disastrous when we could only put a dangerous cross into our own net in the first minutes. Thankfully the heads didn’t go down and Ronan finished like Shaun Goater in his pomp after great work and a great cross from Joseph down the right.
The boys then just got really stuck in and it was a very tight match. We were looking very threatening down the right again and Daniel crossed for Cole to smash us into the lead off the crossbar, only for them to equalise before half time.
We tried to fire them up for the start of the 2nd half but we let in another straight away. Once again the heads stayed up and the game was very tight. With the minutes slipping away we needed two goals from somewhere to win. Now sometimes Pete and I make a tactical switch or a substitution that works but we can’t take any of the plaudits today. The team did not want to lose, pulled up their socks and went at Reds. Ronan equalised after rounding the keeper to cap another excellent performance and then it was game on with about 10 to play. Jamie smashed us into the lead and Pete started to panic, they attacked us but we looked dangerous on the break. Sonny skipped round his man and crossed for Charlie. Could this be the moment we could relax? No, their keeper made a great save but the ball rolled back out to Sonny who slotted it in from a tight angle. YES!!! Three goals in the last ten minutes!
Every player played his part. Braveheart made a stunning save when we were under the cosh. Harley and Harry, up against a very dangerous winger, both forced him to work for anything. Freddie and Reece were a formidable pairing, with Joseph as ever doing the work of two in midfield. Sonny and Charlie got the passing going, Cole and Daniel ran their fullbacks ragged and Jamie and Ronan excelled up front. I couldn’t single any one out, so we have a collective team of the match. Well done boys, you can all be proud of yourselves and I will drink a toast to the lot of you tonight 🍻
