- U12 TORNADOES V U12 WINTON WANDERERS
Saturday 1st October, Beech Farm, KO 10am, League.
Another disappointing first half saw the Tornadoes go in to the break 4-1 down. The good points were that Brandon worked hard to get his goal. He was strong and determined and he deserved that reward. Also, there was some good interplay between Ronan and Sam and between Ronan and Max. Both featured intelligent play, and passing, and both very nearly came off to create goal scoring chances. For the first 10 minutes we were very much in the game and Winton look quite worried as we created several chances. Unfortunately, Winton started to get a foothold in midfield and the goals, for them, started to flow. This, alas, brings me on to the bad points; the midfield, with a couple of exceptions, just didn't work hard enough! Lack of awareness, lack of discipline, lack of fitness, you can take your pick. I told the boys at half time that they weren't working hard enough and that it wasn't good enough. Whether my stinging criticism was the catalyst, I don't know, but I'm told by Ricky (back to the good points) that the boys were vastly improved in the second half and restricted Winton to only one more goal. Further to that, they created plenty of chances and but for a bit more luck and/or composure could have netted 3 times. So, once again, dare I repeat it? We've not played for the full 60 minutes and once again there are encouraging signs! An Honourable Mention to Tom M for good awareness and good kicking. However, the MOTM award went to Patrick Walsh for an industrious and dilligent display. Final score:
Tornadoes 1 - 5 Winton Wanderers.
