- THUNDER V TORNADOES
Saturday 21st January, Eccles College, KO 11am, Friendly.
It was two seriously depleted Beechfield U12 teams who lined up for this Winter Break Friendly, on the 3G pitch, at Eccles College. Playing 8 v 8 it was Tornadoes who got off to a great start. Passing the ball around nicely in midfield, and being solid in defence, the Tornadoes created several chances to open the scoring, with Sam and Max both going close. Finally a fine bit of passing saw Sam release a great ball, in to the Thunder penalty area, which Max converted with customary coolness. This was the cue for Thunder to start and step up their game, which they duly did with a well taken equaliser by Louie Percival. Undeterred though the Tornadoes pressed for another and were unlucky not to take the lead, especially when a penalty, taken by Max, awarded for handball, hit the post. Shortly after this, a good passage of play from Thunder saw them take the lead, in to half time, with a crisp finish from Jake Glass. If the Tornadoes had the best of the first half then the Thunder probably did the better in the second. Early on Thunder stretched their lead to 3-1 with an excellent shot from Reiss Miller. However, Alan provided a swift riposte when he won the ball in midfield, broke away from the attentions of the Thunder midfield, and kept his composure to bring the score to 3-2. Despite this Thunder continued to tighten their grip on the game and largely exerted tremendous pressure on the Tornadoes defence. Credit then to the Tornadoes team who not only restricted the Thunder to only two more goals but, in the process, created a hatfull of chances themselves. Alan hit the post, as did Joe Hope. At one stage there was even a suggestion that the ball crossed the line and came back out and wasn't given. I'll have to claim a 'Wenger' on that one and say that, "I didn't see it"! However, it was nice to notice the Tornadoes end the game on a high when a lovely free kick was floated in, from the halfway line, by Tom williams. Joe Hope met the ball superbly on the half volley to score the Tornadoes' third goal! MOTM went to Tom W.
Final score: Thunder 5 - 3 Tornadoes.
