- U12s TORNADOES V U12s STRETFORD VICTORIA
Saturday 10th December 2016, Beech Farm, KO 10am, League.
As our normal pitch was slightly waterlogged we moved on to the U11's pitch for this Division Three encounter. Unfortunately, we didn't get off to a great start finding ourselves three goals down, with about 20 minutes gone. However, some great attacking play from Ronan on the left wing was starting to pay dividends as one of his crosses in to the area was just missed by Sam. Next time though Sam gambled, got himself further forward, and this time had a nice tap in, to open the scoring for the Tornadoes. Lifted by this goal, the Tornadoes went on the attack again and this time Alan met a cross from the left, from Ronan, with his head. Although the Stretford Keeper got a hand to it, and got the ball under control, the ref adjudged it to have crossed the line. Unfortunately though, just before the half time whistle Stretford scored again to see us going in to the break 2-4 down. The second half provided more of the same with a cracking display of you score, then we score, then you score etc. Although not a game for the dogged purists amongst us, it was still nonetheless gratifying to watch two teams go just go full tilt at each other. With Stretford physically strong and dominant in possession, the Tornadoes counter attacked with pace and precision. The speed of play and inter passing from the midfield and attack was a joy to behold as Alan and Joe Hope got themselves on to the score sheet. Alan's goal featuring a dogged incisive cut in from the left of the penalty area, and Joe's, a wonderful volley from the right of the penalty box. However, the goal of the game and the cap on a Man of the Match performance, came from Ronan, when he picked up the ball in his own area and drove at the Stretford rearguard with tremendous pace and power. Skipping past several desperate lunges, Ronan cut in to the right and produced an exquisite lofted shot, over the head of the Stretford keeper, in to the far post. Unfortunately, Stretford themseleves found the net another three times to leave the Tornadoes beaten. However, it was, as the Ref said to me at the end, "a brilliant match" and the boys can be proud that they all did themselves justice and played well. Final score: Tornadoes 5 - 7 Stretford Victoria.
