- U12 TORNADOES V U12 DEANS PANTHERS
Thursday 20th April, Beech Farm, KO 6.30pm, League.
This was another 'Tale of Two Halves' as the boys stepped out on to the hallowed turf of Beech Farm, for their last ever competitive appearance, at what has been their home for many a year!
With a Churchill-esque oration ringing in their ears, about how this would be their farewell bow at Beechy, I had hoped that somehow fortune would favour us for once!
I remember clearly, last season, in a pivotal moment in a game against De La Salle, Alan was clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat. Out of nowhere, a De La Salle player appeared and ruthlessly and deliberately hacked him down, just outside the area. What did we get? A measly free kick. No red card was shown for what was a cynical breach of the rules.
In this match, Jamie accidentally collided with a Deans player just outside the area. What happens? We get a penalty awarded against us. Full marks to Tom for saving it, but alas the rebound was netted.
Early in the second half, we lost the ball near the half way line. The Deans player wellies it, it catches the wind and just dips in to the net, under the crossbar.
This for me, just summed up our whole season really. However, I am old enough and ugly enough to know that you make your own luck and that these things, as a rule, balance themselves out.
As for the rest of the second half, when I was absent, I'm told that we played a lot better, created a lot more and Ronan scored a consolation after some good work from Alan.
Tornadoes 1 - 5 Deans Panthers.
