Typhoon 3-4 Swinton Cobras
Well after last week's wash out the game went ahead at the second time of asking on a heavy but playable Beech Farm pitch. Typhoon once again took a two goal lead, the first from Cole cutting in from the left, switching the afterburners on and putting the ball in the back of the net. Joseph added his first of the season, finishing crisply from a cross from the right. For the third game in a row the lead was whittled away with Cobras scoring either side of half time. Despite this being a dead rubber the game was turning into another cracker going from end to end. Typhoon started to get on top and when Daniel rifled in I thought we'd won it but the game was far from over. Braveheart Peter took a worrying knock colliding with an opponent but toughed it out and finished the game. There was nothing he could do to prevent the equaliser, a good header from a high cross. At 3-3 and with only seconds to go the managers agreed not to have a penalty shootout, it would be unfair on the boy who missed the crucial one, but then we got through one on one. Unfortunately, we couldn't score, the ball came up the other end and they could with the last kick of the game. Such a harsh way to finish, the boys didn't deserve it.
Pete and I didn't realise at the time but it was an OG, Dan almost getting a last ditch tackle in but diverting it past Peter. I was delighted that no-one in the team blamed him, in fact they voted him man of the match. A really pleasing show of team spirit. I didn't want to pick the winner because they all played so well.
So, a harsh lesson but a good performance. we could just do with taking a few more of our chances and seeing a win out.
