POSTED: February 25 2016 22:52:30. By Oscar Courtney - Swinton Junior Panthers V U11 Tornadoes

Saturday 20th February 2016, Salford Sports Village, KO 12pm.

It was a cold and windy afternoon, at Salford Sports Village, as the Tornadoes lined up to play their first competitive fixture since mid October. Playing on a full size 9 a side pitch seemed to suit the Tornadoes as they competed throughout to see honours even at the half time break. Given the brief to defend in numbers, and work hard for each other, the Tornadoes put in a sterling first half performance that saw them secure a first half clean sheet. Given a bit more composure, and less holding on to the ball, the Tornadoes could easily have been in the lead at half time, as they severely restricted the chances created by Swinton. The second half again saw the Tornadoes competing all over the park. Sadly a lack of concentration, on the second ball, saw the Tornadoes fall behind to goals scored at two corners. Undeterred, the Tornadoes played their football and didn't lose heart. Excellent pressing from Ronan Courtney meant a titanic 50-50 struggle for the ball outside the Swinton penalty area. Eventually, Ronan found Alan who cut across the penalty area to place the ball in to the corner of the Swinton net. Once again the Tornadoes had their tails up and their superior fitness and belief was starting to show. Sadly though, the ref couldn't play regulation time and the game had to be cut short to allow the next match to start. I've no doubt that had we had the 30 minutes, instead of the 25, we would have clinched a draw. Special mentions to Tom Messenger who was confident and assured throughout. Also Tom Williams who showed great determination and to Will Whipday who was classy all game. However, MOTM went to Callum Looby who displayed brilliant, central midfield endeavour!
