POSTED: January 15 2018 23:31:15. By Nathan Hawthorne - Boothstown away league

After what seems like forever we finally had a fixture not ruined by the weather. Boothstown is always a difficult and close game
For some reason we start of slow in a lot of games and today was the same, Boothstown caught us sleeping and after some good play down their left they took a deserved early lead. From that early setback tho Beechy started to take control and before long we were all square after some great play between our front 2 of Matthew and Kyle, where the impressive Kyle cooly finished in the bottom corner. No doubt beechy were on top now, the back 3 of Leo,liam and Robert were looking strong. Robert was impressing a lot on the left while Leo and liam were making some important challenges. Josh was very busy protecting the back 3 and did a superb job all through the game. Woody seemed like he had glue on his hands today and his kicking was on point. it was one of his long kicks that led to our next goal, a good flick on saw Matthew clear to score and add another goal to this seasons impressive tally. Boothstown didn't sit back tho and we went in at the break all square at 2-2. From the first 5 mins we controlled the match and apart from Leo who had hurt his foot we couldn't make any changes. Leo as usual had given 100% and he's fighting hsrd for a start every week.

Second half I felt we were even better, Mikey had dropped back in defence while Joel came on in the first half for the injured leo. Whether I'm biased or not I felt we played some excellent football and we looked like a decent team. For the first 15-20 mins we battered Boothstown and Kyle added another 2 goals to make it 4-2. The second and Kyles hat trick goal was ridiculous.. He raced over the halfway line and as the keeper rushed off his line Kyle looked up and floated a beauty over the keeper and in to the corner of the net.. Superb goal and a great finish from Kyle. 4-2 and looking in control but Boothstown don't give up and in the last 10 mins they caught us out to make it 4-3. The last few minutes seemed to last forever and I'm sure the refs watch had stopped, it was end to end and Demi who had come on for matt was causing problems down the left, if only she had a left foot... Robert was playing a blinder and didn't stop all game. up and down the line attacking and defending like a young Gary Neville but with lots more skill, Josh had come off as he'd ran his heart out as did zane who was also superb. Mikey was causing problems as usual while Aaron and Leo played a massive part replacing our tired midfield and keeping Boothstown out. In what seemed like injury time Boothstown had the ball in our box. The ball was pinging around and it seemed all it needed was a touch from a Boothstown player to make it 4-4. when that touch came a goal looked nailed on but Woody somehow blocked the first attempt then recovered to get both hands on it and grasped the ball safely and fell to the floor. Shortly after the ref blew the whistle definitely a match winning save. Final score 4-3, absolutely great performance and result.

I know the coaches were very impressed today and I'm sure the parents were too. Really good performance considering we've not played or trained for a while. For me I thought Robert was outstanding, but the whole team were superb. A hat trick for kyle another goal for Matt. Midfield battle won by Josh and zane then Leo and Aaron later on. Woody looking comfortable with his handling and kicking. Liam and Mikey controlling things at the back, while Joel and Demi made a big impression from the bench. Great performance and well done everyone. Another away game next week and we are looking for another performance like this.. Well done Lightning, very proud.
Final score 3-4
Goals Kyle x3
Matthew x1

MOTM Robert, closely followed by Woody,Mikey,Liam,Leo,Zane,Josh,Aaron,Joel,Demi,Matthew,Kyle.

Hope to see you all Tuesday, well done Beechy..

Finally, it's with sadness that I confirm Will has left the team, Will and his dad Colin have been part of this team since the beginning and they have been a big part of our team. Will originally joined us as a keeper but soon was playing up front as our main striker. Will scored lots of important goals for us over the last 3-4 years and also helped out in defence and midfield, plus filling in for lucas on a couple of occasions. Will and Colin are always welcome and hopefully we will see them on the touchline in the future cheering us on. From everyone at the team thanks for everything and good luck...
