- Winton JFC Blue 1-5 Typhoon
It was a beautiful, bright blue morning as I left for the game but we dropped down into the fog and -2 temperatures as we approached the venue. Amazingly the pitch, though white wasn't frozen and was perfectly playable.
The League did us a real favour (not often you hear me say that!) switching the fixture from Beech Farm to Winton. Not only was it playable but the pitch was massive, giving us loads of room down the wings.
It was then down to the boys to make the most of it and didn't they just! After a period of pressure from Winton Ronan finished a good attack putting the ball in the net. Daniel added a second and we were the better team though Winton pulled one back before half time. The second half performance got even better and two goals from Cole and a first ever for Harry (I hope he noticed his extra special cheer from the touchline) completed a comfortable win.
Peter had little to do but all the outfield players had good games. Jamie led the line exceptionally and intelligently chose when to run and when to pass. It was the passing that made the difference, Jamie, Milonga and Joseph were all getting good passes wide allowing Daniel and especially Cole to terrorize their fullbacks, get crosses in and score goals. I think all 5 goals came from players on the wing. Ronan controlled some really difficult clearances, allowing us to maintain possession and pressure. Harley was, as ever, combative at the back and Freddie's distribution again kept the pressure on. Harry did a great run in the first half and started looking comfortable in a midfield role in the second. Add on his goal and some sterling work at the back and he was good value for one of the harder Man of the Match awards to pick, they all played so well.I'm sure that performance warmed the freezing toes of our supporters.
