POSTED: April 24 2017 12:11:59. By Phil Hesketh - Supplementary Cup Playoffs

There was beautiful sunshine for the supplementary cup playoffs. Swinton JFC Cobras, Ladybridge Wanderers and Typhoon had all ended level after the round robin, so there was a mini tournament to see who would go to the final.
The first game was us against Swinton. For some reason the matches were to played without swapping around at half time, making the toss important on the sloping pitch. Unfortunately we lost the toss. We struggled to clear the ball for long periods in the game and their star man caused us all sorts of trouble again. The boys put up a decent fight but lost 2-0.
We now needed Ladybridge to beat Swinton for us to stay in contention, which they duly did on penalties after a cracking game. We now needed to beat Ladybridge to force a three way penalty shootout!!!
We keep talking to the boys about the importance of coming straight out of the traps and imposing ourselves on the game. They may not have done this for the Swinton game but they certainly did against Ladybridge. The intensity level of all the boys was excellent, they ran their hearts out, fought for every ball and played some great stuff. It was a really close run thing and could have gone either way but losing the toss again hadn't helped us and we finally lost 1-0. It just wasn't to be and the boys could really hold their heads up.
Picking a player of the playoffs wasn't easy and we went with the boys' vote for Freddie.
Unlucky boys but very well played.
It was a fine day's football.
