- Defeat For 1st Team Ends Five Match Unbeaten Run
Beechfield United's impressive five match unbeaten run in the Manchester Football League ended following a 3-2 away defeat by Bolton County. Conditions were less than ideal for this Division 1 fixture with a strong gusty wind threatening to spoil the game. On a slightly narrow pitch United made a terrific start and should have held a commanding lead inside the opening ten minutes. A clearance by Beechy keeper Robert Harrison was controlled by Kurtis Lee who after skilfully beating two opponents saw his tremendous drive hit the post.
Jamie Sinnott broke the offside trap and got into a great shooting position but he hammered the ball directly at the keeper then Louis Duff suffered the same fate minutes later. Bolton County forced the games first corner and during a goalmouth scramble a United defender was forced to clear the ball off the goal line. But Beechy quickly found their attacking rhythm again and took the lead in the 18th minute after superb play between Jamie Sinnott and Rob Lockley set-up Kurtis Lee who produced a decisive finish.
At the end of United's next lightning attack Rob Lockley who had outpaced the Bolton County number three blasted the ball into the side netting. Working hard to try and find an equaliser County created a few worthwhile moves but United back four of Andrzej Browne, Patrick Beckett, Luke Johnston and Carl Ravenscroft defended superbly. Kurtis Lee had the ball in the net again but on this occasion the goal was disallowed for offside then a cleverly disguised back-heel by Jamie Sinnott sent Rob Lockley racing clear but United's No10 shot wide from a tight angle.
Following some slack defending Beechy gifted their opponents an equalising goal after thirty nine minutes and the home side kept the pressure on United winning a penalty after Andrzej Browne was deemed to have fouled a County forward. But Robert Harrison guessed correctly and diving to his left saved the spot-kick taken by County's number ten. It remained 1-1 at the break and when the match resumed the home side were soon on the attack and twice Luke Johnston was in action making vital ball winning tackles.
Bolton County grabbed the lead on fifty one minutes after Beechy lost possession in midfield. The ball quickly switched to the left flank and an accurate cross from County's number eleven was met by their centre forward who despite appearing to be in an offside position powered a header past Robert Harrison. Louis Duff had a decent chance to get United back level but he shot wide following a swift attack down the left wing. Robert Harrison continued to be the busiest of the two keepers but in the 63rd minute Beechy found an equaliser.
A superb pinpoint cross delivered by Jamie Sinnott was met by Man of the Match Kurtis Lee who neatly fired the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner of the net. Competing fiercely for possession both teams conceded numerous free kicks and from some of these set-pieces County's aerial threat gave United real problems. Beechy continued to create some first-class counter attacks and deserved to regain the lead but it was County who snatched victory with a winning goal six minutes before the end.
