- United Hit Seven In Star-Studded Display
For the second time in seven days Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team were in action against West Didsbury FC and Beechy completed a quick winning double over their opponents. Previously United who despite not firing on all cylinders beat West Didsbury 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Manchester Evening News Cup but when the teams met at Salford Sports Village for a league fixture Beechy produced a first-class display and secured an emphatic 7-0 victory. Enjoying good possession straight from the kick-off United took the lead in the 14th minute after a number of quick passes resulted in Damon Whitbread finding himself in acres of space and from 25 yards he sweetly struck the ball home for the opening goal.
Six minutes later Beechy added their second goal when the ball was worked through midfield and a shot from Damon Whitbread forced a corner. A short corner allowed Scott Foulds the opportunity to take the ball to the edge of the area and with his left foot fired it into the bottom corner of the net. On thirty four minutes United went 3-0 up following a great passage of play that developed down the left flank. A superb cross was headed away by a West Didsbury defender but the loose ball was controlled by Liam Foster who hammered it into the net. The visitors might have worked out a plan to try and contain Beechy in the second half but West Didsbury were soon under pressure again and United who played with a much faster tempo raced into a 4-0 lead on the hour mark.
A quick free kick between Wes Pierce and Danny Browne saw a fierce shot by the latter saved by the keeper but the rebound was fiercely blasted into the net by Wes Pierce. Following another good move the ball was deflected for a corner and after it had had been headed on it reached Man of the Match John Bolton and he lashed it home with his left foot from twelve yards for 5-0 on seventy three minutes. Roy Owen who had worked hard throughout the game was finally rewarded when he scored the sixth goal in the 79th minute. Finding some space just behind the centre backs Roy was picked out by a fabulous ball from Dean Smith and the Beechy striker superbly volleyed the ball home from twenty yards. United kept the pressure on West Didsbury and the seventh goal after eighty six minutes netted by Dean Smith put the seal on a star studded all-round Beechy performance.
