- Junior Section Match Details 6th January 2018
Just six teams from the Junior Section were in action during the first weekend of 2018 while all other games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
Beechy Under 10's Tornadoes played Bury Amateurs at Salford Sports Village in a re-arranged cup game. Both teams made a bright start but it was Bury Amateurs who opened the scoring via a shot from outside the area, the ball hitting the crossbar before crossing the line. After the introduction of Sam Rowbottom the Tornadoes soon found themselves back level when the substitutes long range effort found the back of the net. The score remained level at half time but following a neat one-two move early in the second half Bury Amateurs regained the lead. Beechy quickly re-organised themselves and were rewarded with a second equaliser through a deflected shot from Oliver Percival. With just five minutes left to play the Tornadoes piled on the pressure and after a long throw-in from Player of the Match Joel Thorndyke the ball was easily slotted into the net by Finley Fairhurst for Beechy's winning goal. Considering the players hadn't played or trained throughout December all the Beechy boys still displayed a high fitness level.
In the Development Group Green Division the Under 10's Hurricanes were away to Deans Panthers who won this fixture. Oliver Sheridan was named Man of the Match but the score line didn't reflect the Hurricanes excellent all-round performance.
The Under 9's Hurricanes first game of the New Year was against Deans Youth Sports in the Development Group Yellow Division. Daniel Robinson scored both goals for the Hurricanes who celebrated a deserved victory by the odd goal in three. Voted Man of the Match was Alfie Latham.
On the artificial surface at Ordsall Leisure Centre Beechy Under 9's Tornadoes met Flixton Junior Lions. Manager Mark Rowbotham praised all the players for their 100% effort but unfortunately the Tornadoes lost this Challenge Tournament game. Man of the Match Charlie Backhouse netted United's consolation goal.
Away to Old Trafford in the Challenge Tournament the Under 8's Storm played really well and were the better team for most of the first half with a brilliant performance from goalkeeper Ronnie Pinckney-Thompson. The teams shared two goals at the break but the Storm didn't fire on all cylinders in the second period and conceded three quick goals but they got one back late in the game. Live wire Riley Haney was on target with both goals.
Beechy Under 8's Tornadoes arranged a friendly match with AFC Monton Lions that was played at the Trafford Soccer Dome. Some top-class soccer was produced plus eleven goals in an entertaining contest. The Tornadoes Man of the Match after a brilliant display was goalkeeper Oliver Wood and on target with the goals were Jack McMinn and Alfie Lacey.
