Beechfield United's Division 1 home game scheduled for 16th December 2017 was cancelled when opponents Westbury Sports failed to fulfil the fixture due to a shortage of players. The Saturday Morning Senior Team hadn't been allocated a game and now both teams take a break for Christmas and the New Year resuming their fixtures on 6th January 2018. It gives us the ideal opportunity to take a look at what happened on the pitch exactly nine years ago.

Despite a below average display Beechfield United First Team were worthy 3-0 winners following their home game with Wilmslow Albion. At a rain soaked Salford Sports Village the teams met for the second time in seven days and though the visitors created the better football in the early stages it was United who took the lead in the 11th minute. Anthony Weall and Danny Rowcroft combined in a quick passing move that ended with Martin Blackshaw producing a neat and accurate finish. Wilmslow Albion almost produced an instant equaliser but United breathed a sigh of relief when the ball struck powerfully by Albion's No9 hit the post and was scrambled to safety. United's defence that included the impressive Luke Mather stood firm when Wilmslow Albion enjoyed a greater share of the ball but the visitors failed to create enough clear cut chances. Danny Rowcroft and Mike Gould worked hard in a congested midfield and Beechy threatened to score again before half time.

Both teams continued to play at a fast pace as the second half began and United had to thank keeper Paul Bentley for three magnificent saves before Mike Gould eased the pressure when he made it 2-0 in the 51st minute. Suddenly United's pattern of play became slightly erratic and Wilmslow Albion enjoyed another period of sustained attacking especially down both flanks. But any thoughts the visitors had regarding causing an upset were ended after sixty six minutes when Martin Blackshaw fired home the third goal. Beechy should have added further goals but they were happy enough after securing three more vital points as they chase honours in the Manchester Football League.
