Both games involving Beechfield United's two Senior Teams were postponed on Saturday 9th December 2017 but on that date sixteen years ago the 1st and 2nd team were in action and here are the details from those two fixtures plus what happened in the Junior Section.
High-flying Beechfield United extended their unbeaten run to eleven games when they enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 home win over Romiley FC. Only goal difference separates United and current leaders Moss Amateurs in Division 2 of the Lancashire and Cheshire League with both teams on 36 points. Against Romiley an in-form Beechy outfit quickly found a fluent attacking rhythm on a wet playing surface and their excellent one-touch football created an abundance of clear-cut chances but United were only 1-0 up at the interval.
Romiley's spoiling tactics failed to unsettle United who always displayed a higher fitness level with Neil Lemmon and Stuart Wharton involved in some superb moves down the left flank. Dave Cox was an influential figure in a well organised defence and three goals inside the final twenty minutes guaranteed United another vital three points. Anthony Weall (3) and Matt Little were on target for Beechy.
United's 2nd team took the lead in their Division A away game with Old Stoconians but Beechy never played to their full potential and eventually suffered a 3-2 defeat. Goals for United came from Richard Farnie and Mike Toole.
In the Swinton Friendly League Beechfield United Under 8's overcame difficult conditions to earn a win and a draw from their two games against Deans Tigers. On target were John Paul Caruana and Nathan Sands-Filer. The Under 9's lost twice following their double-header with Middleton Boys.
Beechy Under 11's showed great character as they recovered from two goals down to earn a creditable draw at home to Saints JFC. Goal scorers for United in this Salford Junior Sunday League fixture were Aaron Dunne and Nathan Parkinson.
Facing top of the table team Woodbank Juniors in the Radcliffe Junior League the Under 12's played their best football in the second half and shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Daniel Hall netted Beechy's goal in a match that was a great advertisement for local junior soccer.
Away to Parksfield Juniors the Under 13's produced a solid display that guaranteed a deserved 5-2 victory. The teams were level 2-2 at half time but United's all-round strength and ability were the key factors in the second half. Gareth Caldwell (2) Matthew Twohig (2) and Jamie Royle scored the goals.
The Under 14's lost their M/C County Cup 2nd Round match against Broadoak Rovers via a golden goal. Following a last minute equaliser in normal time Beechy's opponents from the Tameside and District League went on to claim a 4-3 win. Goalkeeper Anthony Nunn gave another brilliant performance and on target were Andy Cassidy (2) and James Evans (his first goal for the team)
Neighbours Moorside Rangers were the Under 15's opponents for this local derby game. At one stage United held a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Martin McKenna and Craig Sharples but Rangers fought back to force a 2-2 draw.
