Beechfield United UNDER 10's HURRICANES Manager Paul Leonard lost one of his best player's named Levi Rathburn who joined Manchester United's Centre of Excellence. Levi was highly praised by David Ryan (Centre of Excellence Director) who made the following statement :-
Levi is a valid member of our UNDER 10's Squad which represents the club to a high standard. Her skill levels have developed well and she performs many of them in competitive games. A major asset is her change of pace and committment in games in which she gives valid support to her team mates. A popular member of the squad, she has an excellent learning mentality and has developed in all aspects of her game. Levi has had a good first season and will develop further in the future.
The 1ST TEAM were disappointed after their Manchester Football League Division One 1-0 defeat at Wilmslow Albion. Despite a gutsy and hard-working display United's goalscoring ability eluded them. Beechy were under pressure early on and their defence that included the impressive Tim Taylor and Stuart Christian were overworked. But United survived the early scare and responded well and had several good chances just before half time. In the second half as conditions deteriorated, slightly against the run of play the home side scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 73rd minute. United dominated the closing stages but they failed to get a deserved equalising goal. Man of the Match was Tom Carroll. (14/11/2009)
United's RESERVE TEAM lost 6-2 after extra time to Manchester Medics in Round 2 of the Manchester Amateur Cup. Guilty of wasting easy chances to take the lead United had to recover from being 2-0 but thanks to goals by Jack Tierney and Luke Johnston they were back on level terms at half-time. Neither team could find another goal in the second half but United were not prepared for the extra 30 minutes nightmare as Manchester Medics adapted better to the energy sapping pitch and hit four goals. Defender Richard Farnie was United's Best Player. (14/11/2009)
In the 3RD TEAM'S Manchester Saturday Morning League Division Two match at Parswood Thursday real drama occured just before the final whistle. With only eight seconds remaining Dean Quinn scored the equaliser to earn United a 1-1 draw. Sam Viller was given the Man of the Match Award. (14/11/2009)
Sixteen of Beechfield United's 3RD TEAM players including Manager Graham Rothwell took part in the Danny Holden 5-a-side competition at the Power League's Soccer Dome. Organised by committee members of the Manchester Saturday Morning Football League, the event was in aid of the Danny Holden Children's Fund and all registered clubs paid a £50 entry fee per team. Danny who played for Fielden Park FC for 18 years, had battled bravely to overcome a terrible illness but sadly he died in September 2009. (16/1/2010)
Beechfield United UNDER 15's went down 4-0 to Nelson FC. United's keeper Chris Davenport was the busiest player on the pitch throughout the first half and though Beechy improved after the break and created numerous scoring opportunities they failed to break down Nelson's well organised five man defence. The UNDER 14's TORNADOES were celebrating after taking over as leaders of Division 4 in the Timperley and District Junior League. Despite having to field a makeshift team United eased their way to a comfortable 3-1 win thanks to goals from Aaron Keenan, Callum Murphy and Adam Doyle. Man of the Match was captain Sam Watton-O'Brien. In the same league Man of the Match Liam Waite (2) Daniel Melody and Christian Hancock got the goals for the UNDER 14's STORM who earned their first point of the season via a 4-4 home draw with Urmston Town. Earning themselves a a fully deserved home victory were United'd UNDER 13's GIRLS team. Beechy triumphed 6-1 over Ladybridge Girls courtesy of a high-energy display and goals by Aimee Wallace (hat-trick) Sarah McManus, Megan McGillvery and Toni Stapleton. Player of the Match was Shauna Smith. (24/1/10)
Beechy UNDER 12s STORM booked their place in the Stax City of Salford Soccer League's Challenge Cup Final. In their semi-final match with Moorside Red it was 0-0 after normal time and extra time but United won a tense penalty-kick decider 5-4. Keeper Daniel Wilson saved two spot kicks then stepped up to score United's winning penalty. The other players who were successful from the spot were Oliver Quinn, Callum Warner, Jordan Smith and Lewis Rigby. The UNDER 10's STORM met the UNDER 10's Tornados in the Challenge Cup semi-final's and it was the Storm who secured a place in the final after a 4-0 victory. The goals came via Tom Battersby (2) Jake O'Brien and Taylor Share. Star performer for the Tornados was keeper Reiss Billingham. Despite a below average performance the UNDER 9's STORM reached the Knock-Out Cup Final. A goal by Alex Doyle inside the opening 30 seconds earned Beechy a 1-0 semi-final win against De La Salle Cobras who had a great chance to force extra-time but failed to convert a last minute penalty kick. (20/2/2010)
Beechy's Saturday Morning Senior Team met Brushes FC for the second time in a week but they suffered a heartbreaking 3-1 home defeat in the quarter-finals of the Manchester Evening News Cup. United made the worst possible start and found themselves a goal down after only two minutes then to make matters worse Brushes led 2-0 nine minutes later. Thankfully United gradually got their act together but despite dominating possession had to wait until early in the second half before a goal by Mike Heyworth reduced the arrears. More superb football from Beechy should have brought an equalising goal but a couple of fine efforts hit either the post or crossbar and the Brushes keeper also foiled United with a series of top-class saves. The visitors made sure of victory with their third goal in the fifth minute of time added on. (27/2/10)
The UNDER 11's powered their way to an emphatic 10-0 victory over Pendlebury United Jaguars. The goals were fired in by Joe McGee (3) M-O-M Lewis Massey (2) Tom Stott (2) Jack Small, Asim Munshi and Callum Lockett. After making a slow start the UNDER 10's Storm won 5-1 at Flixton Junior Colts. Man of the Match Jack Davies (2) Taylor Share, Tom Walker and Tom Battersby got the goals. (6/3/10)
United's UNDER 14's extended their unbeaten run in the Timperley and District Junior League to 11 games with a 3-0 win over Timperley Villa Warriors in the quarter-final's of the Divisional Cup. Following a goalless first half Beechy took full control and would have scored more goals but for the brilliance of the Timperley Villa keeper. United's Man of the Match was hat-trick hero Aaron Keenan. Following a tough match at Ladybridge FC the UNDER 13's GIRLS won 2-0. Two fabulous goals by Aimee Wallace and Daielle Farrand secured the victory. Player of the Match was defender Emily Johnson. (7/3/10)
Involved in a high-scoring Manchester Football League Division 2 match were United's RESERVE TEAM who celebrated a 7-4 away victory over Rochdale Sacred Heart. Goalscorers were Man of the Match Alex Hunter (5) Brad Loughrey and Jack Tierney (penalty) With nine games still to play United were confident of avoiding relegation. (13/3/10)
Manchester FA Challenge Trophy Final played at Moor Lane Salford on 18/3/2010 Beechfield United 0 v Hollinwood CC 5. This result is best forgotten.
Goals by Jack Ryan (2) Reece Dalton, Shaun Ferguson, Remy Maxwell and Lewis Brown guaranteed the UNDER 13's their place in the SCOSSL's Supplementary Cup Final following an emphatic 6-0 win against Swinton Junior Lions. (27/3/2010) Celebrating their first victory of the season were the UNDER 14's STORM who beat Lymm Rovers 6-3. Goals for United in this Timperley and District Junior League Division 4 game were Callum Faity (2) Josh Iducas, Michael Alker, Liam Waite and Christian Hancock. (28/3/2010)
The UNDER 11's enjoyed a 7-3 victory over Monton Tigers. The players on target were Lewis Massey (3) Joe McGee (2) Asim Munshi and Henry Misell while keeper Lewis Wakeley-Reid was voted Man of the Match. As they prepared for Challenge Cup Final the UNDER 10's TORNADOES met Deans Sports away in a Division A fixture. United who lost the match 3-0 nominated Sam Cope as their Best Player. The UNDER 9's TORNADOES drew their friendly match with Boothstown Hawks 1-1. Goalscorer was Jack Farrell. A superb display by the UNDER 9's HURRICANES earned them a 4-2 home win over Barr Hill Hearts. Player of the Match was Kenan Roche and the goals were scored by Jack Smith (2) Jacob Wazo and Joseph Furlong. In the Bolton Boys & Girls Federation the UNDER 15's won 3-2 away at Premier Division leaders Ramsbottom United. Goalscorers were Jordan Broome (2) and Tito Jorge.
