POSTED: July 20 2016 23:17:24. By Keith Long - Beechy Archive 2008-2009 Season

Following their two highly successful season's in the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League Beechfield United's A TEAM became the Reserve team in the Manchester League. After winning their first seven games of the season in Division 3 they created what might be a club record of 63 league and cup games unbeaten.

There was an explosive start to the 2008-2009 season in the Manchester Football League for United's 3RD TEAM who were making their debut in Division 4. Beechy were involved in a ten goal thriller away at West Didsbury and Chorlton and were worthy 6-4 winners. After going a goal down United produced a positive response and held a 3-1 lead at half-time. Beechy added a fourth goal then West Didsbury netted two more themselves but United quickly regained control and led 6-3 before the home side hit the target again in the closing moments. Lee Unsworth (3) Nick Dalli (2) and Jonathan Kennedy scored the goals and Steve Crowe was Man of the Match. (6/9/08)

Celebrating two victories in three days were the UNDER 14's who beat De La Salle 4-2 away. Conrad Lee (2) Jordan Broome and Jack Marshall got the goals. Beechy went goal crazy when Jordan Broome (4) Jason Wood (2) Lyndon Schofield, Jack Marshall and Kevin Masarika hit the target in a 9-1 home victory over Astley and Tydlesley Miners. (12/9/2008 and 14/9/2008)

The UNDER 13's Tornados came out on top following an enthralling contest in the Timperley and District Junior League with Marauders FC. After racing into a 2-0 lead United found themselves losing 3-2 at half time. Both teams continued to serve up a feast of superb football and Beechy claimed a 5-4 victory with their winning goal coming about three minutes from the end. Goalscorers were Adam Doyle (4) and Sam Watton-Brien. (21/9/2008)

Key member of Beechfield United's Under 12's Girls Team Sarah McManus came through trials for Manchester Girls Centre of Excellence with flying colours. Sarah who was tipped to make it as a professional player by manager Sue Millage scored two goals on her debut for the Centre of Excellence side in a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Football mad Sarah who played for St Andrews before joining Beechy also spent 12 months training with her beloved Manchester United the season before. Mum Gill said "all the family are so proud of her" she loves playing for Beechfield but she couldn't pass up an opportunity to join the School of Excellence. Sarah is Manchester United mad and with women's football getting bigger all the time maybe one day she will get the chance to play at the highest level. (September 2008)

In the Bolton Boys and Girls Federation the UNDER 14's remained unbeaten and retained their place as Premier Division leaders after an emphatic 8-0 home win over Bolton Lads Yellow. United who led 1-0 at the break produced some superb attacking soccer in the second period forcing Bolton Lads to do nothing but defend. The goals came via Jordan Broome (3) Kevin Masirika (2) Conrad Lee, Lyndon Schofield and Jake Rawlinson. (28/9/08)

Despite taking an early lead with a goal from Jordan Smith the UNDER 11's Storm went down 5-1 to Swinton Juniors. Charlie Mannion received the Best Player Trophy. Jack Small grabbed a consolation goal for the UNDER 10's Tornados who suffered a 4-1 defeat against Flixton Junior Falcons. Man of the Match was Sam Dykes. A first victory of the season was achieved by the UNDER 10's Hurricanes. Beechy beat North Walkden 6-0 away thanks to goals from Asim Munshi (2) Joe McGee, Henry Misell, Callum Lockett and M-O-M George Ogden. (4/10/08)

Playing two games in twenty four hours were the UNDER 12's who firstly enjoyed a goal bonanza when they beat Monton FC 9-0. The goals were shared between Man of the Match Joel Sharples, Jonathan Royle, Shaun Ferguson, Chris Royle and Ben Timmis. Then United were in action in the MCFA Sunday Youth Competition but they lost 4-1 away to Stretford Victoria. Jonathan Royle scored the consolation goal. (12/10/2008)

The UNDER 13's Storm drew 5-5 for the second successive Sunday. Trailing 3-1 at the interval to a North Trafford side United created a gutsy display in the second period and their fifth and equalising goal came inside the final sixty seconds. Man of the Match Christian Hancock (2) Michael Alker (2) and Daniel Melody got the goals. (12/10/2008)

Goals by Callum Warner (2) and Joseph Watton-O'Brien gave the UNDER 11's Storm a 3-1 half time lead in their away game against Moorside Red but Beechy produced a mediocre second half performance and had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Keeper Daniel Wilson was voted Man of the Match. (18/10/2008)

On Saturday 25th October 2008 Beechfield United's 1ST TEAM were involved in a thrilling Manchester Challenge Trophy Quarter-Final tie with Hollinwood FC. The score was 3-3 at the end of normal time and 4-4 after extra time but United managed to seal victory following a nail biting penalty kick decider. United's goalscorers (not including penalties) were Ben Hyland, Luke Mather, Mike Gould and Andrzej Browne.

Beechy UNDER 13's Girls were involved in a nine goal thriller at Beech Farm Playing Fields with Gorse Hill FC. At one stage United found themselves 4-0 down but they staged a remarkable fightback and thanks to goals by Taylor Taher (2) Aimee Wallace, Megan McGillivary and Fern Naughton were able to celebrate a remaekable 5-4 victory. (2/11/2008)

In the Manchester FA Sunday Youth Cup the UNDER 11's Tornados created a teriffic performance in Round 2 and were worthy 5-1 winners over Ashton United Sports Club. Callum Van-Dieman (2) Ben Lockett, William Holliday and Luke Mather scored the goals while Ryan Telford was voted Man of the Match. (2/11/2008)

Producing another top-class performance were the unbeaten UNDER 9's Storm who cruised to a convincing 6-1 away win at Flixton Junior Colts. The goals came via Tom Walker (2) Alfie Belcher, Jack Davies, Tom Hilton and Rashid Amer (8/11/2008)

In a thrilling UNDER 7's encounter between United's Storm and Tornados goalscorers for the Storm were Declan Nolan, Logan Holroyd, Liam Wilson and Jaden Timmis while the versatile Joseph Foster was the Tornados Star Performer. (8/11/2008)

Following a disappointing display the UNDER 12's lost 6-2 at home to Langworthy Juniors. Mason English scored both goals and midfield ace Harry Wragg collected the M-O-M trophy. In their Friendly Match against Gorse Hill the UNDER 12's GIRLS produced a brilliant performance and deserved to win an absorbing contest which finished level at 1-1. Beechy's goal came via Taylor Taher while Player of the Match was Fern Naughton. Away to Irlam Vale Hawks the UNDER 9's Tornados were worthy 6-2 winners thanks to goals from Kyle Cooney (hat-trick) Tristan Ainsworth (2) and Finley Walker. Man of the Match was Team Captain Connor Reid. At home against Monton Amateurs Thunder the UNDER 10's Tornados were narrowly beaten 1-0. Best Player award was shared between Sam Dykes and Jack Small. Goals by Louis Duff and Max B.Rowe secured a vital 2-1 victory for the UNDER 10's Hurricanes over Pendlebury United Panthers. The UNDER 11's Storm were punished for a below average display and lost 3-0 away at Deans Tigers. Man of the Match award went to Ryan Cox. (22nd and 23rd November 2008)

Following a superb game at Swinton Juniors the UNDER 9's Hurricanes fully deserved their 2-1 victory. Substitute goalkeeper Mason Shields gave an excellent display and the goals came via Adam Kensitt and Matthew Whiteside. (29/11/2008)

Thanks to hard working performance United's Reserve team were rewarded with a 2-0 away win over Breightmet United. On a heavy pitch the home side had the better of the early exchanges but once United got into their stride they stepped up a gear and went in front courtesy of a stunning goal from substitute Jamie Sinnott. In the second half Breightmet forced some fine saves from United keeper and Man of the Match Martin Fisher but after wasting a glut of chances Beechy who continued to show an excellent workrate and good attitude made sure they remained as leaders of Division 3 when Andrew Traverse scored the second goal in the 85th minute. Goals by Man of the Match Lewis Kelly (3) Kuka Azad (2) and Callum Wonta guaranteed the UNDER 10's Tornados a convincing 6-0 victory at North Walkden. In a Friendly Match with local rivals Moorside Rangers Blue Jack Farrell and Alex Murphy were the goalscorers for the Under 8s Tornados. Harry Cottrill was named Best Player. (20/12/08)

In the Manchester Saturday Morning League United's 4TH TEAM who were playing their final game of 2008 earned themselves a pre-christmas bonus via a 4-1 home victory against Manton Wanderers. The last time the teams met Beechy suffered a 5-1 defeat but on this occasion they were determined to get revenge and led 1-0 after ten minutes thanks to Wes Pierce then Man of the Match Tim McQueeney made it 2-0 minutes before the visitors reduced the arrears with their only goal of the contest. In the second half United quickly regained control and Tim McQueeney fired home the third goal before Kyle Wray sealed a fine all-round team performance when he completed the scoring late in the game. (20/12/08)

Beechfield United UNDER 13's Storm met Alderley Edge for the second time in seven days and following on from a 4-4 draw Beechy went one better when they secured a 5-4 home win. Michael Alker (2) Josh Hardman, Sam Suddons and Keel Parker got the goals as United stretched their unbeaten run to four games. In the Bolton Boys & Girls Federation the UNDER 14's powered their way to an emphatic 7-1 win over Little Lever but on the balance of play United should have hit double figures. Beechy looked more confident and ambitious than in previous games and gained three easy points courtesy of goals by Matt Holloway (2) Jason Wood (2) Jordan Broome, Aaron Drummond and Jack Marshall. (21/12/2008)

The 1ST TEAM retained second place in Division 1 of the Manchester Football League despite suffering a 4-2 away defeat at Bury Amateurs. Man of the Match Anthony Weall scored both goal's, one from the penalty spot. (28/12/2008)

Unfortunately United's UNDER 11's Tornados went out of the Sunday Youth Cup when they lost 4-3 at home in Round 3 to Tameside and District Junior League outfit Waterloo Juniors. United who never held the lead in an absorbing contest had dreams of extra time and a possible penalty shoot-out but the visitors had other ideas and grabbed the winning goal just two minutes from the end of normal time. Goals for Beechy came via Callum Van-Dieman, Kyle Leather and Ryan Telford. (11/1/2009)

The 1ST TEAM played local rivals Salford Victoria and thanks to five second half goals won this Manchester Football League derby game 6-1. Vics took a deserved lead in the 18th minute but United equalised five minutes later via Eddie Carroll. Struggling to find any fluency Beechy looked ragged and Vics should have taken advantage but they wasted numerous clear cut chances. After the break United were better organised and scored three goals in a six minute spell. A spectacular strike by Martin Blackshaw made it 2-1 then Eddie Carroll netted goal number three and Trevor Walsh added the fourth goal courtesy of a powerful and accurate finish. Vics continued to produced some great attacking soccer but as in the first half lacked the finishing touch to some decent chances. Two goals by Anthony Weall in the latter stages guaranteed a much needed victory. (17/1/09)

Going goal crazy were the UNDER 13's Storm who cruised to an emphatic 9-0 away win over Timperley Villa. Operating with a 4-3-3 system Beechy quickly took control and were leading 6-0 at the interval. Christian Hancock (2) Nathan Hamer (2) Josh Hardman (2) Paul Thorpe, Daniel Melody and Michael Alker scored the goals. (25/1/09)

United's Reserves gave a below-average display away at Royton Town Reserves but after a lacklustre first forty five minutes they played much better in the second half and eventually won the match 3-0. Goals by Callum Wilkinson (2) and Andrew Traverse ensured Beechy remained as clear leaders of Manchester League's Division 3. Luke Martin and Tim Taylor shared the Man of the Match Award. At home to Swinton Junior Jaguars the UNDER 9's Tornados snatched a 2-1 victory thanks a last minute winning goal. Finley Walker scored both goals while Conner Reid picked up the Best Player Award. The UNDER 11's Storm recovered after going a goal down against Flixton Junior Colts. A hat-trick by Jordan Smith put the seal on a 3-1 win for United. (31/1/09)

During the weekend of 7th & 8th February 2009 only one team within the Mini-Soccer and Junior Section played an official game. Tim McQueeney got the consolation goal. At home against Barr Hill Juniors the UNDER 12's suffered a 3-2 defeat. United worked hard throughout the game and scored twice in the last six minutes via Shaun Ferguson and Mason English. Team Officials Wayne and Nick Ferguson chose Stephen White as the Best Player. The UNDER 9's Hurricanes produced a decent performance in their home game with Boothstown Dynamos but sadly they lost the match 3-2. All the goals came in an action packed first half with both Matthew Whiteside and Mason George hitting the target for Beechy. Serving up a feast of top quality football were the UNDER 8's Tornados and Sporting Leigh. Man of the Match Harry Cottrill, Jack Farrell and Charlie Bennett scored the goals. (14/2/09)
