Managers and Assistants for the 2002/2003 season: U/7's/U8's Colin Bridgford/Shane Flanagan, U/9's Steve Bull/Gary Kenny, U/10's Tommy McLoughlin/Lee Smith, U/11's Mike White/Wayne Spindler, U/12's Jim Pilling/Steve Ramage, U/13's Andy Wilson/Chris Clark, U/14's Barry Minshull, U/15's Brendan Loughrey/Hadge Smith, U/16's John Langton/Mark Hutchings, U/19's Ged Goodwin/Tom Williams, 2nd Team Barry Minshull/Mark Johns, 1st Team George Lockley/Chris Ellison.

Beechfield United UNDER 15s produced some great performances in the Farnworth Boys 7-a-side Tournament. They reached the final in their relevant age group but lost 3-2 to Martindale FC. Each of the following ten players received a stylish runners-up medal. Mike Allen, Michael Bailey, Peter Bell, Andy Cassidy, James Evans, Ryan Farrelly, Daniel Fernhead, Pat Fitzpatrick, Jamie Howell and Chris Seery. (28/7/2002) Another U/15s player Alex Brogan had recently had a two week trial with Manchester United FC.

At their new ground at Agecoft (off Whitewater Drive Salford) the 1ST TEAM kicked-off the season in the L&C Amateur League. United entertained Wardle FC but following a very entertaining contest Beechy who wasted a glut of easy chances suffered a 3-2 defeat. Steve Ellison and Jason Mears were the best players on view while the goals came via Anthony Rice and Mike Gould. Making their debut in the Tameside and District League the Under 19s YOUTH TEAM were involved in a 5-5 draw with Hattersley Old Boys. The visitors crude tactics went unpunished by a poor referee and United who at one stage held a 4-1 lead had only ten players for most of the second half. Keith Donoghue (2) Ben Gardner (2) and Ben Holden got the goals. (31/8/02 and 1/9/02)

The UNDER 12s made their Timperley and District Junior League debut with a 5-3 away defeat at Unicorn Athletic. Beechy looked the better team at times but struggled to overcome their opponents rather unorthodox style of play. Daniel Corker (2) and Jack Hurst (penalty) were the goalscorers. (15/9/02)

After losing 3-1 to Warth Fold and Redvales (goal by Matthew Waite) the UNDER 10s came out on top of an eleven goal thriller at Marauders Pumas. Ryan Smith (3) Matthew Waite (2) and Thomas Staniforth were the scorers in Beechy's 6-5 victory. On their travels were the UNDER 14s who produced a scintillating display against Middleton Boys and were rewarded with a 5-1 win. Ryan Dyson (hat-trick) Scott Davidson and Gareth Caldwell got the goals. (22/9/02)

Despite scoring two goals within sixty seconds against Radcliffe Borough the UNDER 11s somehow lost the match 5-3. Beechy who were the best team throughout scored goals via Ben Riley, Daniel Walton and James White. In a tense and hard fought contest against local rivals Moorside Rangers the UNDER 13s only showed their best qualities in the second half and it was Rangers who took the honours with a 4-3 victory. Goalscorers were Andy Daley, Luke Martin and Callum Wilkinson. Ryan Farrelly (4) John Hinds and Jamie Howell were on target for the UNDER 15s who achieved a moral boosting 6-2 home victory over Bridgewater Eagles. United's Man of the Match was Pat Fitzpatrick. The UNDER 16s demonstrated their goalscoring qualities and looked in excellent form during a home game with Bury Rangers. Goalscorers in Beechy's emphatic 7-2 win were Bradley Holland (2) Jamie Rowson (2) Dave Beaman, Paul Hutchings and Craig Sharples. (29/9/02)

Following a dull ninety minutes the 1ST TEAM kept in touch with the leading pack in Division 1 of the Lancs and Cheshire League thanks to a narrow 1-0 home win over Old Stoconians. Both teams lacked any real invention in their play and United's match winning goal scored by Steve Ellison arrived in the first half. Back from suspension Matt Little caught the eye with a stylish performance in midfield and new keeper Jim Hardman looked highly confident as he displayed some safe handling and quality distribution. In Division A United's 2ND TEAM faced league leaders Burnage Metro away and matched their opponents in an exciting first half which ended level at 2-2. Jamie Hiles and Kevin Hodson scored for United but after the break Burnage Metro took control and went on to claim a 4-2 victory (5/10/02)

Beechy UNDER 8s(B) team who faced Langworthy Juniors for the second time in a week made a bad start losing 2-0 but they looked better in the second match and earned a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal from Sam Watton. Best Player was Zak Saleh closely followed by Aaron Drummond. Despite holding a 2-0 lead at one stage in a Manchester FA County Cup 1st round tie against Sale United the UNDER 12s eventually suffered a 4-3 defeat. Leading goalscorer Daniel Corker, Aaron Dunne and Gary Bethell were on target. Ryan Dyson (2) Ben Knight, Charlie Martin,Scott Davidson and Taylor Marshall scored for the brilliant UNDER 14s who extended their unbeaten run to seven games following a 6-1 home win over Westbury Sports. All United's goals came within the first half. (20/10/02)

On 14th December 2002 Beechfield United's 1ST TEAM beat St Margaret Mary's 11-2 in Round 3 of the Manchester Amateur Cup. Man of the Match was Matt Little following his star-studded eight goal performance. The other goals came via an Anthony Weall hat-trick.

There was a mixed bag of results as some of Beechfield United's Junior teams played their final games of 2002. In a cup fixture United's UNDER 11s suffered a 6-1 home defeat when they faced Swinton Boys. David Lever got the consolation goal. Vital defensive mistakes cost a below-par UNDER 12s dearly when they lost 2-1 to Wythenshawe Amateurs in the Timperley & District Junior League. On target for Beechy was Daniel Pennington. Goals from Lee Rothwell (2) Callum Wilkinson and Luke Smith guaranteed that the UNDER 13s took their unbeaten run to four games following a 4-2 win over Radcliffe Juniors. Pierce Morrison and Luke Martin shared the Best Player Award. The UNDER 14s threw away a four goal lead and were held to a 4-4 draw by Westbury Sports. Jamie Royle (2) and Greg Todd (2) scored for United who named Taylor Marshall as their Man of the Match. Retaining top spot in Division 2 of the Bury and Radcliffe Junior League was easy for the UNDER 16 who enjoyed an emphatic 6-1 home victory over Chadderton Park. The goals arrived courtesy of Paul Hutchings(2) Craig Sharples (2) Bradley Holland plus an own goal. (28/12/02)

A friendly match at the JJB Sports Arena between Beechfield United's UNDER 7s and De La Salle proved to be a highly competitive encounter with both sets of players displaying an excellent team spirit throughout. Goals for Beechy were scored by Peter O'Shea and Sam Newton. (12/1/03)

On Sunday 18th January 2003 the UNDER 14's met Boothstown Juniors in the Manchester County Cup. Unfortunately Beechy lost 4-2 but two days later Club Secretary Keith Long received a letter from Match Referee Gareth Walmsley which read: Dear Sir, I am just writing to congratulate both teams who were involved in a brilliant game of football. The behaviour from both sets of players and supporters was excellent and I really enjoyed being part of this cup tie, if only more teams were like this. Although the players were only 13-14 years old they acted with great maturity and their manners were first class. I would also like to thank the parents and staff of Boothstown for all their effort in clearing the pitch of surface water. Could you pass on my Best Wishes and I look forward to meeting both teams again in the future.

In the Tameside Sunday League the UNDER 19s held a 3-1 lead against Stocks Inn but on a deteriorating pitch somehow lost their grip on the match and had to settle for a 4-4 draw. James Dalli (2) Darren Prince and Ryan Williams who received generous praise from his Manager got the goals which lifted Beechy to 2nd place in the table. (26/1/03)

A 14-1 home win over Horwich St Marys in the Phoenix Cup took the UNDER 13s goals tally to 26 in two games. There were hat-tricks for both Luke Smith and Andy Daley, plus Lee Rothwell (2) Steve Ellison (2) Kyle Wray, Callum Wilkinson, Luke Martin and Robert Edwards. Following an action packed encounter against Hulme Rangers the UNDER 15s celebrated a 5-3 victory. Ryan Farrelly (2) Chris Seery (2) Mike Allen and Daniel Fernhead were the goalscorers. John Hinds played well throughout but it was Kyle Rogers who was voted Man of the Match. (26/1/03)

Beechy UNDER 9s were in action against Parkwyddn Juniors. They lost the first game 3-0 but found much better form in the second game which they won 5-1. Jake Howcroft hit a second successive hat-trick plus a goal apiece for Billy Fisher and Jacob Jenks who was voted the teams Best Player. Returning to winning ways were the UNDER 14s who beat Rammy Raiders 5-0 thanks to goals by Gareth Caldwell, Jamie Fisher, Oliver King, Ben Knight and Jamie Royle. A friendly match between United's UNDER 13s and Walshaw Sports finished level at 3-3. Goalscorers were Andy Daley, Steve Ellison and Luke Smith. (9/2/03)

United's 1ST TEAM won 2-0 away at Cheadle Hulme but during the match keeper Andy Ferris was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg. Steve Smith and Anthony Weall scored the goals. Jamie Hiles netted a hat-trick for the 2ND TEAM who lost 6-3 after extra time to Rochdalians in Round 2 of the Wray Cup. (22/2/03)

A 3-3 draw was perhaps a fair result when the 1ST TEAM faced Old Stoconians in a L&C League Division fixture. On a hard and rutted playing surface United struggled at times to find any rhythm and this affected their normal quick passing game. Beechy who scored goals via Dave Cox, Anthony Weall and Christian Bates were forced to work hard throughout to salvage a point. In Division A the 2ND TEAM gave a gutsy and stylish display and didn't deserve to go down 3-1 against top of the table outfit Burnage Metro. Simon Cornwell was on target with the consolation goal. (29/3/03)

Beechfield Utd U/8s 1 v De La Salle 2 (Sam Watton) Beechfield Utd U/9s 1 v Moorside Rangers 0 (Nathan Sands-Filer) Beechfield Utd U/10s 2 v De La Salle 1 (Matthew Waite and Lewis Royle) Beechfield Utd U/15s 4 v Boothstown Juniors 4 ( Ryan Farrelly(2) Alex Brogan and Brad Loughrey) Beechfield Utd U/16s 9 v Radcliffe Juniors 1 (Bradley Holland (4) Lee Sharples, Craig Sharples, Jamie Rowson, Gary Haslam and Simon King) (13/4/03)

United let slip a 4-2 lead to lose a heartbreaking final played at Brantingham Road Chorlton in the second period of extra time. The tie had been forced into the extra thirty minutes by a Heywood St James equalising goal scored during an incredible nine minutes of injury time, but Beechy couldn't quit hold out for a penalty shoot-out against their very physical Lancashire Amateur League opponents. United went ahead in the 14th minute when Anthony Weall got on the end of a superb low cross by Luke Mather and lobbed the ball into the net. Heywood St James replied from the penalty spot but Richard Jackson restored Beechy's lead with a close range effort. Slack defending gifted Heywood St James another equaliser just before half-time. As the second period unfolded United's keeper Chris Johns made a couple of brilliant saves before two goals in eight minutes from Dave Cox and Christian Bates seemed enough to guarantee Beechy victory. But a late Heywood penalty caused United jitters and during a mysterious nine minutes of added time Heywood scored again making it 4-4. The golden goal rule came into operation and it was Heywood St James who were celebrating after the final whistle. (15/4/2003)
