(Team Manager - Ged Goodwin)

The UNDER 13s lost their opening match of the new season when they went down 4-3 at home to Parkwyddn Juniors. But Manager Mel Smith was proud of his new look team who gave a creditable and sincere performance. Goalscorers were Jamie Anderson, Charlie Axon and Darren Strand. (30/8/98)

Beechfield United's UNDER 12s continued their pre-season build-up by winning a six-a-side competition organised by Eccles Amateurs FC. In the final United beat AFC Bolton 2-1 with both goals coming from Daniel Tennant. This was followed by more success when goals by Paul Batty (5) Gary Haslam (2) Luke Lacey, Steven Canning and Daniel Tennant saw Beechy power their way to an emphatic 10-0 victory after a friendly match at Wigan outfit Hawkley Juniors. (29/8/98 & 30/8/98)

The 1ST TEAM produced a first-rate display and easily won their friendly with Clarksfield FC 6-0. United who had several new players on view dominated the match throughout and scored goals via Dean Aldis (2) Pete McLoughlin (2) Stuart Wharton and Mark Willis. (29/8/98) Seven days later United kicked-off their new season in the Lancashire and Cheshire League against Aldermere. In Division 3 United won 1-0 Adrian Brocklehurst getting the only goal in the first half while newcomers Chris Ellison, Carl Said and Stephen Smith gave first-class performances. (5/9/98)

When Marcus Holness (U/10s) joined Beechfield United FC prior to this season he was just another boy hoping one day he would become a professional footballer but his dream did come true. Central defender Marcus spent part of his youth career at Oldham Athletic (2005-2007) then joined Rochdale FC on loan in October 2007. He impressed the Dale management team sufficiently to earn himself a two-and-a-half year contract when the transfer window opened the following January. Marcus signed a two-year contact extension that will keep him at Spotland until the summer of 2013.

In the Salford Junior Sunday League the UNDER 10s produced some great team-work and first-class finishing in their 5-0 win over De La Salle. Gareth Caldwell (4) and Darren Ryder were on target. Gary Haslam and Nathan Horan scored the goal's for the UNDER 12s in their 2-2 draw with Little Moss Youth. A goal by Mike Smith was the only consolation for the Under 15s (A) team who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Burnage Rangers. (27/9/98)

In the L&C League B Division the 2ND TEAM returned to winning ways thanks to 2-0 away victory over Newton FC. United always looked the more stylish team but they had to wait until the closing minutes before making sure of the three points. Rob Urey and substitute John Walker scored the goals. The 3RD TEAM who were in a rich vein of form triumphed again by winning 3-1 at home against Gatley FC. On target were Darren Minshull (2) and Ross Hilton. (3/10/98)

The club held a Sportsman's Dinner at the Wendover Hotel, Monton. Guest Speaker was Pat Crerand (the former Manchester United & Scotland player) and the Master of Ceremonies was Fred Eyre. There were several items raffled on the night including a shirt that had been signed and dontated by David Beckham. Tickets £25 per person, plus a Comedian and a 5 Course Meal.

At the start of November 1998 the weather caused the postponement of all fixtures scheduled for the first weekend and only a few games were played on Sunday November 8th. Pitch conditions were poor for the UNDER 14s when they met Bury FC Juniors in the County Cup and despite a below-par first half display United were 2-1 winners thanks to goals by Simon Lawrence and BJ Tennant. The UNDER 15s (A) beat Manchester Eagles 3-2 following a physical yet entertaining encounter. The goals came via John Smith (2) and Danny Rowcroft. Leading goalscorer Gary Ramage hit both goal's for the UNDER 15s (B) team in their stylish 2-1 win over Moorside Rangers.

Playing for the first time in five weeks the 1ST TEAM regained top spot in the L&C's Division 3 after a 4-3 victory away at Romiley FC. A goal by Paul Worley put United ahead in the 5th minute but Romiley equalised thirteen minutes later and held at 2-1 lead at half time. But the second half was only three minutes old when Carl Said's goal brought the scores level again. The heavy pitch proved to be a real fitness tester as both teams fought fiercely for possession. On 62 minutes United were awarded a penalty and David Cox made no mistake with the spot kick as he put Beechy 3-2 up but Romiley were a constant threat especially via the quick counter attack. They drew level in the 85th minute then two minutes later Paul Worley produced a superb run from the halfway line that ended with a stylish finish as he hit the match winning goal. (14/11/98)

In the Bury and Radcliffe Junior League Stephen Robertshaw (2) Steve Canning and Gary Haslam hit the goals for the UNDER 12s who somehow let slip a three goal lead and had to settle for a 4-4 draw with Marauders. Extending their unbeaten run in the Lancashire and Cheshire League to eight games were the 3RD TEAM. A 2-0 home victory over St Margaret Mary's made Manager Barry Minshull a happy man. In a scrappy game United didn't produce a stylish performance but they had a bit more quality than their opponents and secured the three points thanks to a goal in each half. Ian Wilson opened the scoring and though Beechy had most of the chances on offer they lost some fluency in the second half and failed to overcome St Margaret Mary's boring tactics. Goal number two came from Darren Minshull who's swerving shot from 20 yards had just enough power behind it to beat the keeper who got a hand on the ball but could only help it into the net. (5/12/98)

There was some pre-christmas cheer for United's 1ST TEAM as they returned to winning ways when they beat Droylsden Amateurs 3-0. The fixture was reversed after Droylsden's pitch had been ruled unfit but United's playing surface quickly became muddy in some area's due to the heavy rain. Keeper Charlie Siswick was kept busy during the first half as Droylsden Amateurs looked the better team. It was a different story in the second period as United gradually took control and produced some brilliant football that led to the opening goal on 55 minutes scored by Mark Willis. Despite the poor conditions the match was highly entertaining and two goals from Stuart Wharton in the 65th & 75th minute made sure United retained top spot in Division 3. (19/12/98)

The UNDER 14s moved smoothly into the quarter-final's of the Lancashire County Youth Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win against Chorley St Gregory's. Lee McCann scored with a well executed volley but it was Matthew Thompson's spectacular strike which produced the highlight of the game. (20/12/98)

In a top of the table clash the UNDER 16s drew 3-3 with North Walkden. In the Salford Junior Sunday League the UNDER 13s made the worst possible start to the new year when they were beaten 12-1 at home by Deans Sports. Bradley Rowcroft got United's consolation goal (10/1/1999)

When the pitch's at Beech Farm were declared unfit the UNDER 10's decided to play their match with Parkwyddn at their opponents ground. The 1ST TEAM who were playing their first match of 1999 in the Lancashire and Cheshire League needed two goals in the last five minutes to force a 2-2 draw with Irlam and Cadishead. Mark Wills and Steve Lines (penalty) were on target. (23/1/99)

Goals by Kevin Bailey and John Walker helped the 2ND TEAM secure a 2-0 victory over Stretford Victoria. Some of the football United created during the contest was outstanding and they could easily have reached double figures but five efforts hit the post and three hit the crossbar. (23/1/99)

Extending their unbeaten run to eleven games were the 3RD TEAM who ran out easy 4-2 winners against Flixton Town thanks to goals by Rob Worley (hat-trick) and Darren Minshull. (23/1/99)

Three weeks later the UNDER 15's (A) team reached the final of the Auto Centre League Cup thanks to a 3-2 win in the semi-final's over Blackley Jets. Goals by David Walker, Danny Rowcroft and Mike Smith crowned a fine all-round team performance. United were beaten 4-1 in the final by Woodbank FC but they got revenge over their opponents by winning 2-1 in the final of the Tony Hunt Knockout-Cup.

In the Senior Section the 2ND TEAM celebrated after their 4-1 success over title contenders Oldham Albion. A 3-1 victory in Division B of the Lancashire and Cheshire League was guaranteed with goals via Kevin Bailey (2) Pete McLoughlin and John Walker. But the UMDER 14s were soon given a reason to celebrate because on Sunday 9th May 1999 they won the Allen Cup. Second half goals by Fisal Kara and Lee McCann secured a 2-0 victory over Moston Brook.

All fixtures had been played bringing the 1998/99 season on the pitch to a highly successful conclusion.
